I wasn't sure which section this topic belonged in.

I was wondering if dandelions have any unique attributes to do with fae? They seem kind of special to me so I hate taking them out of the garden even if they are 'weeds'.

Wow! I just wrote a poem about Dandelions the other night.

It is important to note that dandelions are really cool. If you dry dandelion root and grind it up, it can be used as a coffee substitute (without the caffiene)(spelling?). Their leaves are great sources of nutrients such as iron. If you get enough of dandelion heads you can make dandelion syrup! I am truely awed by the beautiful plant and I do not understand why people think it is a weed.

I can definitely relate! I was always confused when I was told that it was a weed. It is a delightful flower and I don't like it when people pull them just to get rid of them.

@Witchy, thanks for the info on dandelion uses. I will have to look into that!

Dandelions are considered weeds because they choke out other plants O:

It is, of course, okay to harvest them if you are going to use them

And pull them if they may be choking out the other plants.

Thanks,

i love seeing dandilions dotting green feilds. i never pull weeds up, even if they are ugly, i dont have to anyways since i dont garden lol. i would say that dandilions are flowers.

I wouldn't pull dandelions. They're beautiful. I hate pulling anything beautiful. And I hate it when people stomp through the flowers. :/ It makes me want to cry.

Jolly Rancher, you are so right-   and thanks so much WitchyWoman for that link too..

Faeries love all plants- including flowers- and they especially love flowers due to the energy and essences each flower emits.    I recall reading some people's After Death experiences where one thing they particularly noticed was that there were also flowers in the Heavenly Realm-  and the flowers there actually were very alive– as t hough they had a consciousness.   Well in reality, all plants and even flowers do  have a soul–   so it doesnt surprise me that these people who had these experiences noticed that.

Dandilions are precioius wild flowers –   very under-appreciated — in fact, our society sells toxic weedkillers to destroy these beautiful flowers because landscapers consider them a nuisance.    This is because humankind has tunnel vision and cannot see the flowers for the trees–    (FYI–  that last sentence just popped in my  head mysteriously– I think faeries or gnomes are in my room :-)!

After my faery encounter back in 2008, I started caring for and appreciating wild plants more and stopped pulling up what I used to consider weeds–  instead I would allow the dandilion or plantain to grow in the garden- and just transplant the ones that wanted to take over into a seperate area just for them.

Then one morning before waking up, I heard this woman  singing this verse to me– (while I was half asleep/half awake)   "You are helping the flower to seed;   all things are precious"     Then I jolted awake and noone was in my room–  this woman had to be someone from the Faery realm or Angel who works with the faery Kingdom.  I wrote down this verse in my journal and will never forget it.      All things are precious-     if Dandilions were not meant to exist, they would never have been created.

Did you know that dandilion leaves are very healthy to eat-  are very high in antioxidants- and even iron as well–  the type of iron the human body can easily absorb.  As Witchy Woman said- the roots are very edible- and can be dried and then put into warm water as a tea.   The roots have a property in them that detoxes the human liver-   Also, it doesnt taste bad-  You can even buy dandilion root tea in the healthfood stores!

The flowers can even be eaten as welll and the flowers have very good pollen for all pollinating insects.    Pollinating insects are suffering greatly in the United States because of herbicides and pesticides that are being used on  a larger basis than ever before.     In fact,  agricultural corporations like Monsanto,  have developed plants that have built-in herbicides in them — which naturally kill off any nearby dandilions, milkweed, and any wild flower that these mutant type plants are grown near.     Pollinating insects die as a result.    The agricultural corporations don't really care if bees or butterflies die off-  they only care about making money and finding ways to do it .

So if you see a dandilion — don't kill it-     transplant some of them into a seperate are if you need to , then water them .–  but don't kill them.     Some people in Mexico where dandilions are rare– even put them in pots with potting soil and enjoy thier beauty on thier deck , porch or patio..

Oh my gosh Lisa, that is fantastic information, thank you!! I will *definitely* try to transplant them as we have such an overgrowth of them and my parents are bent on picking them out of the lawn, lol!

Also, do you have any links to how to use the roots for liver detoxing? I'm going to google away.

your'e so welcome!

I do have some links but have to search for them–(have tons of bookmarks)   , but curezone.com is a great health site with many many forums – some of them dealing with the healing properties of herbs and wild plants.

What  I would do is when you pick a dandilion from the ground-  dig up the root part and wash it with a non toxic cleanser (like Dr. Bronner's peppermint liquid soap, etc)      let air dry.

Then chop up the roots in little pieces with a knife and add to boiling water.  It wil make a healing detox tea.

When you transplant the dandilions to a seperate area –   snip off the old flower stems after the flower turns to seed- so that your parents don't freak out seeing stems sticking up–   some people mistakenly think that dandilions look trashy when they turn to seed-   it's just the way our society is these days–     so to appease them so that your dad wont pull them out on you-   make sure to snip the dead flower stems off with scissors so they look neat. That will also help the dandilion look healthier next time it gets flowers!

lol all this info on dandelions is so cool! And thanks a bunch Lisa, I might have to try this tea thing! :)

but its kinda funny sitting here with all you talking about how good danelions are for you-and they "taste good" too! cuz once I was bored and we were outside for gym class. I picked a danelion (cuz there were five million bajillion around me) and said to meh buds, "What if I ate this?" and one of them said "I dare you to!" So i started putting iit in my mouth (i was NOT going to eat it tho cuz that would be so gross!) but appearently i was putting it in stem first (there was a bit of stem on it from where i picked it) and some milk fell out on my tounge.

it was the WORST thing I have EVER tasted! so, uh, not doing that again! lol

but the tea idea sounds great!

(I also have to apologize, i seem to be postin in old/oldish threads and stuff, is that okay? i know it bugs some people…)

Hi DawnFlower! I don't mind when you post in older threads- I do it all the time myself, and like when other people do because it means you are researching and reading the forum :-)

You can eat the dandilion leaves– especially the newer younger leaves.    They taste great in a home-made salad and are very high in iron.   This is especially good to eat around 'that time of the month" for a woman- as your body loses nutrients, minerals and Iron each month at that time.

here's how I make the salad:

1-    Add Green lettuce like Romaine,  Buttercrunch, or any kind of dark green lettuce

2-   cut up some radishes and raw onions.

3-   add in some cut up pieces of dandilion leaves

4-  Scatter on some Feta cheese,  or your favorite type of shredded cheese

5-   chop up a hard boiled egg

6-   add some drained chickpeas

7-   add in some black olives

Salad Dressing:

1-  Mix some Olive Oil with  Balsamic Vinegar- , and a little black pepper and sea salt to taste

Toss and enjoy :-)

When you make the salad like that you don't kill the dandilion plant by pulling it up- but you just clip some of  the leaves off with scissors as you would lettuce in your garden–

Mmmmm..that does sound good! I bought dandelion root tea. It is very yummy. I have put dandelion in salad and it is very good. It may be a bit bitter and to me at first I didn't like it's bold taste. I got used to it though and now enjoy it.

dandewlions are yummy… and they get rid of warts when you apply the sap to the wart. it must be true dandelion tho, that means that there is only one stem with the flower on it growing out of a base with spikyish leaves(the shape). wat? mums a herbalist.

that is interesting about the milky sap ridding warts!  Last year I had a small one on my finger, and would definitely have used it if I knew that!   Thankfully it went away after I used Oregano Oil and Iodine.

Sadly we dont have any dandilions blooming this Season yet-  as we are having a drought, and it seems to be affecting t he dandilions :-(
