Handmade Fairy House

If you want to encourage fairies to visit you, try putting a fairy house in a place of honor in your home.  A fairy house not only shows fairies that you believe in them, it also shows that you are making an effort to extend your hospitality and provide them with a fairy friendly environment.  Fairies are very appreciative of special places you set aside especially for them and will be much more inclined to communicate with you.

A fairy house and the area around it is considered sacred space and can serve as a gateway to faerie.  This special house can be both a place to leave gifts for fairies, and a place to conduct your fairy magic.  Here, you can fly the fairy flag, display little fairy shoes, and leave little things you think they might enjoy such as a thimble of honey, fairy cakes or even a little ale!  One important thing–never have iron anywhere near the fairy house as iron is poisonous to fairies. Your fairy house design can be as fancy or as simple as you wish.  It should be constructed of mostly natural materials that you have found in nature or have on hand if you are a crafter.  The house in the picture above was constructed of scrap wooden boards with twigs and copper added as decorative elements.  The copper was used because it is a favorite fairy metal and very attractive to them. The little pixie house below was made from a card stock base with moss, bay leaves, and a few twigs added  for decoration.  It may look difficult to make but all it took was a two to three hours, the above items and a glue gun and it was done! For those crafters out there, I will be showing you how to do this simple house in an upcoming post. Once you have your fairy house in place, make sure you occasionally greet them and send them some positive thoughts.  It won’t be long before you realize you have some new residents in your home!

A perfect place for pixies.

Actually, houses don't have to be complex for the fairies to like them.  You could use a shoebox,  or any other box for that matter, and paint it and add some natural elements like twigs, leaves, stones and they would find that very attractive.  when it comes right down to it, I think it is the intent behind the making of the house that really matters to them.

Adding gem stones is  great idea and I'm sure they would love that.

How adorable!! What if you have cats though? I don't think they get along too well…Can the houses be up high where cats can't reach?

Yes, you can put the houses up high, that would work just fine.  The cats wouldn't bother the fairies but, if they are like my cats, they might bother the fairy house.

I put out a vanilla wafer in an oragami starbox and the next morning it was out of the starbox and on the table I put it on that night.                        Could a fairy have done that?Do you think she ate some of it even though there were no bite marks

After reading of Tutti's experience with her tumbled stones and how the faery painted rune symbols on them to match her symbols she painted for them–   I do not doubt that a faery had moved that cookie to let you know they enjoyed it.

You won't see bite marks as the faerykind enjoy the essence of the food and leave the denser part behind.

I've never really understood what that means: The essence of food. Is it like a food spirit? Does anyone know?

I think it might be like that..everything has an essence of some type..maybe the aroma of the food is what they experience?

I was thinking maybe the aroma is tied in with it-    You know those flower essences you can find in the healthfood stores–  One brand is called "Bach's Flower Essences"    — Mr. Bach discovered that each flower essence is able to help heal various emotional issues we have–

The Essense is the very subtle property extracted from that flower– and the aroma is the evidence of that essence's existence.    Even with fruits and vegetables, there are organic compounds that make up the "essence"  -and you can not see this with the visible eye.

will they be unhappy if i ate the left over? (example: i give them a cookie, they took the essence and the cookies left over is eaten by me)

does it still taste good if they take the essence out?

is it okay if the house is made of paper with little nature product.

i can't get gule gun, so is it still strong with super gule and normal gule.

should it be made with nice soft sofa and bed?

do they even spend the night in the little house?

i wanna have rooms and kicthen and living room, but too bad i'm not a house builder. i wonder have anyone ever seen people build little town and houses out of toothpick. i heard and seen pictures..

will it be okay if the house is put on shelves that had a door, like a closet.

how do i know something is made out of iron?

do they like fake stuff, like cheap fake pearl. cause i got these small peral earring for 5 dallors, i got like 3 and 3 other for 5 dallors. so i guess it okay to asume it's fake.

if the fairy house is put inside the house, how do they know you made a fairy house? especially if fairies never comes around.

Some faeries may spend the night in the home you build, but they're rarely ever going to physically live in there like you have a roommate. You may not always find them in there, but if you are luck, and if they feel welcome, you may catch a glimpse of the most beautiful thing ever.

I don't think they would be unhappy-and you can also put it outside for the wild animals to eat afterwards.  It may not taste very good though after the faery enjoy the essence from the food– it may end up tasting kind of bland afterwards.     According to Ron Cordes,  leave the food out for 24 hours and if you put out any juice or drinks for them- leave that out for 12 hours.

is it okay if the house is made of paper with little nature product.

If you make a little cottage for them and have no natural materials, they would still be touched -even if you made it out of paper.   You may want to try prettying it up with drawings and pictures and glue sparkles on it

i can't get gule gun, so is it still strong with super gule and normal gule.

Super glue would be great for anything heavy that may fall off with regular glue.  You can use regular glue for paper or lightweight things though.

should it be made with nice soft sofa and bed?

If you don't have access to a nice little dollhouse bed and sofa, you can even make your own for them with a cardboard jewelry box– the kind that the department stores give you when you buy a bracelet or ring.    you can even make a pretty little cot for them out of a seashell and cottonballs :-)

do they even spend the night in the little house?

They have been known to stop by  these little cottages– especially during the Summer months  when they are placed in gardens.    If you place one of these in a special place in your home,  they may use it as a relaxation place from time to time- especially if you make them feel welcome inside and make it attractive for them.

i wanna have rooms and kicthen and living room, but too bad i'm not a house builder. i wonder have anyone ever seen people build little town and houses out of toothpick. i heard and seen pictures..

There are people out there who have talent like this and can make little miniature furniture.    You can use your imagination and make things for them out of small everyday things–such as thread spools, seashells,  walnut shells, etc.

will it be okay if the house is put on shelves that had a door, like a closet.

Should be no problem– even if there are screws made of iron on the door-  the iron isnt in thier face– and covered by the wood

how do i know something is made out of iron?

Anything made out of steel- and if it rusts when water gets on it.

do they like fake stuff, like cheap fake pearl. cause i got these small peral earring for 5 dallors, i got like 3 and 3 other for 5 dallors. so i guess it okay to asume it's fake.

They realize it's not real, but especially the pixies love shiny pretty things–even if plastic.

if the fairy house is put inside the house, how do they know you made a fairy house? especially if fairies never comes around.

I would talk with them outside– let them know in your garden and in your yard that you made a little something for them in your home- to make them feel welcome in your home when they want to visit.  Tell them it's for the faeries or pixies with good intentions.   Make sure to put the faery protection symbol near it in case any negative faeries choose to stop in and wreak a little havoc with it.

I would keep telling them this outside — as you dont really know when they may be around to hear you or not– so  keep telling them.     Eventually one will hear you and may be curious to check it out.

umm, it kind of is embarrassing , i talk to myself but i never talk to the air before. i bearly could say i give these to the fairy when i leave foods out.

if i feel like i sense them, is there a high percentage that they were there. cause these days my sense are very high and i often think i feel them a lot in my yard. after building my fairy house i feel even more stronger sense of them from my fairy houses(even though the house look crazy), but i keep pushing the thought out. (i believe it's just my mind who cause me to believe i sense them. because we don't have very good garden or any plant that attract them. although i don't know if the two tree beside my bedroom are oak tree and maple tree. can't find any acron but this tree did have spikely roiund things falling off it. i did find leaves that look familiar to oak and maple tree leafs.)

are there other ways we can tell if the food we given out to them have been eaten?

i made my fairy house out of juice cart and layer with thin paper that came from the warpping of bath tiissue. i did papier macha to the thin paper which make my house look a bit mess up with all these part sticking out.

Hi ta!

If you sense them –especially in your garden,  it is probable that you sensed their actual presence there-

I talked with a young guy from Britain on another forum who started out by talking to the faeries out loud–  wether or not he knew they were there or not .  He did this outside.     He had no evidence that they heard him or not.   He just chose to believe them.

Then he would tell them to feel free to read his mind– as he couldnt talk out loud in front of other humans.

Eventually he started seeing them in his room –  as flying lights, and he would feel thier energy move about his head-

Once they knocked down a stuffed animal he had on the shelf-    He talks to them regularly now.

He said to talk to them out loud first- to get their attention outside-  becuase they faery will not really pay attention to humans- they see us all the time even though we can't see them.   Addressing them out loud at first does get their attention, he said–     Faeries will not read your mind normally unless they want to–   and our thoughts are so scattered and cluttered that they really don't care to bother — unless they want to read your intentions.

Inviting them to read your thoughts will give them the "okay" to do so–  and then you can speak to them in your mind.

The fact that you made a faery's cottage using non-iron materials   is enough for them to feel you are trying to meet them half way and are trying to welcome them .     Just your good intentions by doing this probably has touched them- and they may feel there is hope for humankind yet! :-D

So  place your faery cottage in a place of honor in your room and add a candy or two there for them.  They love sweets.

Even though you may not have any kind of fancy garden in  your yard-   they also love trees- and you have trees!  They sometimes use trees as portals from thier realm to ours.    The tree you mentioned with the prickly balls that fall from it- sounds like a Black Walnut Tree- and  faery love ALL trees- not just the traditional types that folklore says they favor.

We have a walnut tree on our road.   Last year I told the faeries I loved them near the pond on our road, and when I was walking back to my home I found  a beautiful walnut shell laying right at my feet-   where the inside was shaped like a perfect heart.   I treasure that walnut shell now as  a precious gift from the faery.

Hugs

Lisa

I thought I would share my little Fae house I got for my garden. Since putting it in my garden I have been blessed with 3 four leaf clovers, a pair of mating moths and a mushroom growing!
