I'm Summer, I'm 12; I'm in the exact same position of you, minus a younger sibling and a kitten, of course x3 [[Edit: Well I do have a little sister, but she's only 3 years old.]] I'd be in an asylum if I ever told my mom about the Fae…

A kitten won't affect the Fae much, though certain fae may be attracted or unattracted to animals. [[Think of people who like cats and people who don't hate them but don't love them]]

Some popular ways to attract faeries are to:

1. Make a faery house! It can be any size and can be put indoors or outdoors, but don't put anything containing iron in it, they're all very allergic to it.

2. Leave out offerings of food or pretty stones. Faeries love sweet stuff, mostly fruit. And most favor lemon- but all faeries have different taste, so anything left out can help! Most love honey and milk- but the problem with that is ants. Faeries love anything pretty. They also like it when you leave out clothing and shoes and etc. If it isn't gone, don't be disheartened- they can take the essence of things but not take things physically.

3. Put up the faery flag somewhere! If your parents ask what it is, just tell them your friend made it for you or something. You can find a few copies of it all over the site.

4. Protect against Unseelie [[bad faeries & entities]]! If you do this, the Seelie [[good fae and entities]] will feel more inclined to enter your home. There's an elven protection rune somewhere around here, you can print it out or simply draw one [[doesn't have to be fancy!]] if you like. They work for me!

5. Invite the fae into your home and mind! Most fae don't appear or use their voice physically. You'll have most encounters within your mind or dreams. You'd be suprised how much doing this helps- inviting them into your mind. [[invite only Seelie, mind you]]. If you hear something, it may seem like it's just you making things up, but most likely, it isn't.

You can also make a Fairy Door! :D

It doesn't need to be open, but You can mount hinges, if You want it to be open. But remember – Don't use iron/steel! It can harm Fairies!

And You should say Your intentions are good and "Unseelies/Faes with bad intentions are not welcomed!". :P You can write a poem or somethin' or sing. They love singing and dancing. :P 

About food – chocolate is not good for winged Faes, but, like Summer said, They have different taste. :P They take essence. How do You know? If it tastes crappy/doesn't have taste than They took the essence (or expiry date has passed. lol.).

Thanks 1Believe123– I will be heading over to that thread soon to check your experience–  I wil be trying that tonight– there are fireflies out and about ;-) too

I did see some zooming white lights twice this Summer that were NOT firefllies,  so once in a while, if they feel like it , they will make themselves seen — only they move so quickly that you need to pay attention.

Kittens should not be a problem in the least.     I have a friend who has a cat– and now has a friendship with a wonderful faery named Tea Rose– who when she first made herself known to my friend,  would whisper to the cat, "Scat, Cat, Scat!"    and the cat would run off into the living room.     Now my friend has a faery cottage in her kitchen for this faery/Pixie Being who is able to communicate with her when she meditates.   THis Faery Being is helping her in how to connect with her housepets too.     She comes and goes from my friends house–   She first met this faery through two dreams she had–     There are some faery who are very warm-hearted and friendly Beings– though they are sad at what we humans do to this planet, they are still very loving  and want to teach us how to correct our ways.
