Alright, I went through my necklaces, looking for one that would become my 'faery attracting necklace,' as I can't buy one. It's an old necklace my cousin gave me, it has a heart with pretty designs that I felt might attract the fae.
I did this Sunday.
What I did before I put it on was rinse it with holy water-I got holy water from the religious director at my church (I went to church classes) when I was about 8 and got a doll from a yard sale that ended up crepping me out and giving me nightmares- and drying it with a white washcloth (I'd once heard that drying crystals and necklaces with white cloths 'purifies' them some how…)
For each day up until now, for five minutes at least, I'd wear it. It felt heavy, but I just thought it could be because of the heart pendant.
Now mind you the necklace isn't tight.
It just occured to me what the metal could be-it's a cheap necklace…I thought it was cheap gold or whatever…stupid me…:P-iron.
The reason I said it isn't tight, is because when I took it off today, I noticed the right side of mty neck, where the chain was, was red.
I put lotion on it, but it's still red. And it itches. >~>
Perhaps the fae used this to show it's iron. I really don't know.
I hope I'm no annoying you all with this…it's probably nothing, probably really silly. <//.//<
But I was wondering if you guys could tell me what you think…?
Thanks.

I don't think it's the the holy water, because I've used it before and nothing happened-that and the fact that I only cleansed/rinised it with holy water Sunday, and the redness and itching started tonight.
Maybe I could be allergic to the necklace. Or it could be the fae. Don't really know.
Thanks. :)

I thought iron put in water would rust. I think you did put the necklace in holy water which is still water so of course the iron would rust. Maybe the rust irritated your skin. I don't think the fae would have anything to do with this, they don't like iron. It may be a natural thing. To have a iron necklace, wouldn't be too favor in my opinion. You have to take good care of it or else it would rust. There are necklace that can irritate skin, I have gone through it and to think of it it's a necklace with a pretty mini cross. Its function was to protect me but it instead it irritated me. I'm not sure what was it made of.

Thanks for the information! :)
I actually drizzled the water to rinse it and imediately dried it, so if it rusted, I might not have noticed it.*shrug*
Hmm…probably not, seeing as they hate it.
Thanks again for the information.
(As I said, it's probably nothing…proabably really silly…>///~///> )

Redness/orange is the sign of rusting. My family often use iron knife so I know when they rust, they ain't pretty looking.

Perhaps you are allergic to iron? Or cheap metal? I know a lot of people are. It could also be the weight of the necklace, I've had that happen to me as well.

(Sorry about if bothered anyone….)
But the weird thing is, is that the toliet paper holders in the bathrooms are iron…and the skin on my hands wasn't irritated or red…
It could be the metal, but I think I've worn the necklace about a year ago, and nothing happened…unless I can't remember properly…which probably's the case….
Again, I'm really, truly sorry if I annoyed or bothered ayone with this topic…
Natalie, if you want, you can delete this…
Once again, I'm sorry if I annoyed anyone…I truly am…

Sounds like a nickel allergy. It's a common metal in jewlery because it has a nice silvery color but there is also another mix that gives it an appearance like Iron that's popular with gothic style jewelery.. Most cheap jewelry is a nickel/tin copper mix. Nickel and copper are common allergens. Iron isn't used in jewelery unless it's specified and a custom made piece Even stainless steel isn't used much anymore just in posts for ear rings. .

Yeah, that's probably what is…I just freaked because about a year ago-when I got the old thing from my cousin, I wore it…but nothing happened then, if I remember correctly…
Again, I'm really sorry if I annoyed anyone-and sorry if my repeated sorries annoyed anyone-I just freaked out a bit, like I said…
I'll just stop now….

From what I read, it does sound like you are allergic to the metal in the necklace, just like Bluefirephoenix said. For the record, I really don't think you were annoying anyone at all. We like to talk about these things here so don't worry about that, ok? :)
Back to your original purpose which was to wear a necklace that would be a "fairy attracting" necklace. You mentioned that you couldn't buy one – could you make one? Do you have craft materials around? You could always paint a faery star onto a bead or a piece of wood, etc. Or you could paint a symbol on a cloth and fill it with cotton, herbs or stones or a combination of both. Then just get some leather or silk cord and you have yourself a fairy attracting necklace! This is sort of similar to making an amulet which I talked about here: http://www.realfairies.net/how…..l#more-935
Of course, this would probably depend on you having some basic crafting or sewing skills. As far as which symbol you could use, well, both Susan and I wear a faery star and also the faery protection rune. If I was just starting to work with the fae, I would use either a faery star or the faery communication symbol which would work really well.

Yeah, that's most likely the case.
Okay. :)
I think I have some beads-but they're very small which means hard to paint on-and while I can draw alright, I'm ot the best painter. I don't know about string though. As for the cloth, I don't think I have any around but I could check. :)
Thanks. ^^

Finished it! Took away to find the ribbon and beads though. Couldn't find any fabric….
It's a green ribbon with a larger pink bead in the middle-still to small to put the the faery star on it though-and on each side there's green beads (transparet green (one on each side) Lime green (1 on each) and light green (again).
It ended up being sorta a choker-style necklace, though….

I agree with JollyRancher. I have trouble with any jewlery not made of silver or gold or that is not coated specially for sensitive skin. My skin gets all red and irritated. It's probably that you're allergic to the metal used to make it. I'd avoid wearing any necklaces until the rash/redness go away.
