Do the fairies hate me? Do they think I'm an idiot who's wasting their time? Am I even a person that they can trust? Because I want to communicate with them so badly and yet I've had no success at all. Remember the old shoebox filled with treats that I put in my back garden that I thought was going to attract them? Well nothing's happened and that shoebox is now in the cupboard in my room. I've got a Hyacinth flower on my window sill and I have a bunch of crystals and I have tried talking with them but still nothing has happened. I mean I know they are uneasy when encountering us but come on it's hard to know what they are thinking if they keep hiding themselves from me. I'm no mind reader and I can't feel their emotions because I'm not like them. I just need to know if I'm on the right track or not. I've started this belief back in October last year and I'm not quitting now.

Well I know all that but it's just getting them to notice me is the hard part.

How do you know they haven't? How would you know if they had? Maybe you need to figure out what you expect from the fae, and then figure out if it's a realistic expectation. Actually, expecting something might not be the best idea anyway. They don't perform on demand, you know, and don't seem fond of being pushed, but they do like it when folks are neighborly. :)
Plus, something else to consider is that in the winter-time there is less energy available for fae to use in order to visit our realm. Also, in my experience the trooping fae really do seem to go elsewhere right after Halloween, so maybe between those two things there just hasn't been much of a chance for any of them to do anything that might get your attention. And, as SirZachary said, the Veil is stronger in some places than in others – it's possible that you live in a place where it is strong-ish.
Now that Spring is arriving, you might start having better luck.

It's good you're not quitting because even if you won't be able to communicate with them your emotion will add to those of other and thin the veil. There is no right or wrong track, every person has its own way of reaching a point.
Like Athidal and SirZachary, don't tired to force it, relax and wait till they are ready to show themselves. When you believe and do not expect them to appear, then maybe a path will open. Keep believing, maybe someday you will be able to thin the veil enough to be able to communicate. ^.^

Just be patient youll catch 'glimpses' of things eventually, though a full body manifestation is rare (but it can and does happen, thats how I saw my first faerie, and how I know without a doubt that they exist, or at least something that looks exactly like them :3 hehe). For me whenever I get too busy with the 'real world' I tend to see and notice less, but when I slow down and try to make my presence known to them, I start to get lots of glimpses of small fast movement around me, like things rushing out my line of sight so that I can't clearly see what it was, and for me it happens real often. I think though my case is different then most, because I am still living in the same building that I saw the full body manifestation of a fey many years ago. Therefore this entire building is probably a very very thin place, also probably helps that our neightbors that we have had my entire lifetime have a huge and beautiful well kept garden. :)

Your looking in the wrong place. Sounds to me like your putting things indoors. They don't like being in human houses. You need to go out into the woods and be out there at the times they can be seen dawn dusk, and overnight. The equinox is coming up it's a good night for doing some camping I'd say. There are fairy mounds all over the place there and that's another good place to look. … even in the city there are spots parks and such. Ideally it would be out of sight and hearing of any other humans, but I realize thats difficult where you live. Even your garden woudl be better than inside. It's time there to plant flowers ( unless your in the north) I'd be working on that and they'll show up at some point I expect.

Yes trying to communicate while in nature is probably your best bet, unless your current situation is like mine (live up north, pretty cold, and already coming down with something from it >_< so going outside isn't an option for me right now until things warm up heh.)
Perhaps try meditating against a tree in a nice wooded area, or somewhere that nature thrives a bit.

Well I live in Maidenhead and that is what in the south of britain? Yeah south of britain so could the veil be thicker here? And fairies hate humans houses? Ah damn it! God you ninny, Joseph! You put the crystals out in the garden not on the fricking window sill! God I'm such an idiot for not knowing that little detail! Do back gardens still work in terms with communcating with them?

Back gardens absolutely work. :) They especially work if they include nice-smelling flowers and/or herbs such as lavender, rosemary, and thyme. Honeysuckle is also very good. Leaving a bit of the yard to grow wild, if you can, is also good.
Strange random thought here, but if you get hummingbirds where you live then something tells me putting out a hummingbird feeder would also attract fae, especially the small winged ones, since it would effectively be like setting out a big supply of honey.
Also, major tip: if your yard, like mine, is prone to getting lots of litter blowing in from around the neighborhood, definitely make sure to clean it up periodically. They really appreciate that.

I'm not sure about how thick the veil is where you live but I can tell you that the part about the fae hating human houses is not an absolute. We see the small, pixie types in our house from time to time–more in the spring and summer–and we have been told by Mr E that there are some gherrings (small mermaid type creatures with wings) in our large indoor pond. Of course, the elves are near by us but we have also encountered some gnome sized beings here too. So…it is possible.
Gardens are wonderful ways of connecting with the fae. For one thing, it shows them that you value nature and they value that, and secondly, it creates an inviting space which attracts them to you.

Aw right. I'm thinking of maybe putting out a crystal outside and see what happens. Do you think I should put out a glass of milk as well just to be on the safe side of things?

you shouldn't try so hard, it probably scares them a little..you should still think about them but let them come to you..ask them to come in your dreams and if they do they are listening..remember..they are shy. :)

Slow down? Okay but I should tell you I have heard voices back in February I think it was. I heard a girl's voice when I was sleeping one night which woke me up of course. And a couple of weeks ago I heard another voice but I was sleep at the time and I didn't react to it and I vaguely remember it.

How can there possibly be that many spelling errors! Just about everything you can do has been said.

Have you ever watched the dustdevils at fall passing by you? Or felt spiders web against your face in an open field, sometime seen the air sparkle as if there was glittre in the air?
All this are signs of elemental/ fairy activety, the fall is a beautyfull time to watch the winds toss up the leafs as if someones dancing in the middle of them. Keep your soul open, and i belive that you one day will discover ways to recognise their presence in your own way, I believe that they allready have noticed you. :)

If only I knew they had noticed me. It's really hard for one person to know what they think of me if all they do is hide from humans because of the harm they might cause to them and their homes. That action of theirs confuses my mind the most.

You seem to be doing everything right, but there is one thing…negative feelings, like "Do the fairies hate me?" might turn them away. Fairies are drawn to positive, lighthearted attitudes. It may not be that they don't like you (hate is a very strong word), it may just be that you need to know that they are probably watching you and see some things about positivity you may need to work on. And I don't know if positivity is a word, but…you get the point.
Turn that frown upside down!!!
