Hi Faecat, it seems your mother is thinking that your alter is something like a black magic alter where you would practice occult things..
This is why i don't label special places i make in my home as an "altar" .
I would make something new — just something simple for the Faery to have a place of thier own- and all that has to be is one shelf in your room with a faery cottage, and pretty things for them to enjoy. A faery flag is a nice addition and none of that stuff is evil or takes the place of God in your life. I don't like the word altar, because we don't worship the faerie. It is just a place set aside in our homes for them to feel welcome.
I think your mother is totally taking the wrong approach – By her pushing her spiritual views on you– by slamming you over the head with them, she can eventually turn you off to the most important Being that exists– God, Himself.
Your mother does mean well- however I do not agree with her approach at all- and she needs to put this matter before Jesus in prayer- and just maybe He might enlighten her in ways she never expected– and she may have a new understanding that your shelf you made in honor of the faery was in no way to take the place of God- but was just something you wanted to do from the love in your heart.
She doesnt believe in the faery realm, and that's her choice, but she needs to let you make your own choices, or else she will end up pulling you away from God by her demanding way she is handling this.
Faecat, I know that it hurts that you can't share these things with your mother. Your mother is alot like my father- who to this day I cannot share even things about God with Him, much less the Faerykind and angels.
He doesnt even like to hear me talk to my mother about books I read of people's back to life experiences, where they encountered Jesus Christ– he intentionally interrupts me to shut me up whenever he is in the room– even if I am not talking with him .
Your mother loves you, but there are things you just are never going to be able to share with her–some things you can,but other things you will have to wait until the Holy Spiirt reveals these things to her — probably after her death and she is then more open to learn beyond what she knows now.
For what it's worth — my faery garden had some quartz crystals hanging from the pine trees that surround the faery garden. My father angrily pulled the crystals off of the limbs (even though they were not glaringly visible) and called me a gypsy..lol! We got into an argument over that- because he tossed them out- even though I paid $25.00 for them in a catalog, and they were very pretty too. grrrrr!!!!
hugs
