Hello :), i always wanted to read some good fairy/elven books.

I visited the recommendation page on this site, and i have to say its great, if i would have the chance i would defenetly buy them lol.

I came to an idea to try to look for books in the local library. I didn't really held my hopes high, but i found some authors that… well sounded interesting. The problem is that ppl here dont really have a sense of magic and magical creatures around them so all the books about fairies and elves are for children ._., actually anything related to magic is considered childlish and for kids T_T.

Anyway, these are some international authors that i managed to dig up here, so if anyone heard about them, and read their books i would appreciate your opinions :):

Jody Bergsma

R.A.Salvatore

Stefan Wolf

Brian Froud

Terry Pratchett

aren't there any that are non-fiction about the fairies.

those i found that may be non-fiction does not exist in my library. i'm so sad.

i only found Brian Froud.

i'm disapointed about R.A.Salvatore. one of his plot story was too harsh for me to even get interest.

Hi! there actually are some non-fiction books about the faeries!

1– The Elves of Lily Hill Farm,  by Penny Kelly

2– My Summer with the Leprechauns– by Tanis Haniwell

3– Talks with Trees-  by Leslie Cabarga

and there are others–   one also by Rev Kirk back in the 1600's.

The Talks with Trees one is the author's experiences with telepathic communication with plants and trees– to his surprise he found out they actually do have a consciousness.  While he was connecting with trees, he did actually connect with faeries here and there– and some of the trees told him that the faery help encourage them from discouragement they go through on this Earth.     When I was reading his book near the pond I take walks to-   A dragonfly mysteriously flew right up to the book and rested on the page tip while I was reading it!

I emailed the author and shared with hiim my own faery encounter— he told me that he never was blessed to SEE the faeries, but it is given for hiim to HEAR them.      He also  was thrilled that someone  took his book seriously- as he is dead serious about his plant psychic  experiences.   He's an artist- and doesnt make his money off of this book- it's also very inexpensive too–  I think the original price is only $10.00 paperback.

I reccomend you go to Amazon.com and type in the search box "faery encounters" or something like that-   you will get a list of some fantasy books, but you will also see a bunch on the lists of serious faery books too.    You can order them online through Paypal-  and dont have to use credit card.

Also- if your library doesnt have these books- you ask them to order them for you– and they will put out a search for them ,  have them sent into your library for you to borrow as you would any of the books your library already has.

hugs

Lisa

Yeah, Salvatore can get really dark in some of his stories. I wouldn't really recommend them for younger readers.

Lisa mentioned some pretty good nonfiction books about faeries. There's also another one called "The Real World of Faeries" by Dora van Gelder which talks about the different kinds of fae she could see and, to some extent, interact with. It's a pretty easy read.

And for the academically-minded, there's the classic "The Faery-Faith in Celtic Countries" by W.Y. Evans-Wentz, which is a scientific, anthropological study. It talks about the stories about faerie encounters that he was told by people in the U.K. back around 1907-1910, and has an absolute wealth of info. I heard somewhere that it might be out of print now, but there's always the internet and used book stores.

Sometimes libraries that are in the same area can loan each other books, and lots of times they also have webpages you can look at to see if any of the libraries around you have a book you'd like to read. Just go to Google and type in "(your city's name) public library", without the quotes. Make sure to put in the name of the city you live in, or closest to. If you can find a list like that, and you find a book you want that isn't at your nearby library, try asking your librarian if they can have the other library send them that book. :)

@ Jalyene

I wanna expand my faerie book collection so I want to buy many! ^^

B&N do not have any on the list that Lisa posted. =3=''

Oh fudgie balls with sprinkles. >=(

May just have to ask my Papa to buy 'em online and I will pay him back since the price should not be too steep. >3<''

Ah well, I still need to buy those other books from two book series. >3<

One book from each series. ^^
