I was coming home from the store in the evening not too long ago. And I swear, as I turned my head, I thought I saw someone there on the lawn. At first I thought it was just a trick of the light or some random jogger, but I quickly noticed that there were no cars or moving artificial lights to make it an illusion. There were also no joggers around that evening. That's when I started freaking out I really thought there was a person there, but when I looked closely and directly at this person, the person was gone. I mean, it really felt like there was a person there. Since it was kind of dark out, I couldn't see clearly. I do remember seeing the clothes to be white. If there was really a spirit there, then I believe that me being scared makes me unable to see spirits. And I think I may have attracted the spirit by humming the end of a sum41 tune in my head. The lyrics go like:

"I will be home in a while,
You don't have to say a word,
I can't wait to see you smile,
wouldn't miss it for the world…"

I was actually chilling out thinking about how strange it is that the rest of the song seemed to describe the strained relationship between Fae and the majority of Humanity. my experience might have been something created from my imagination or my great desire to see Fae. I don't know.

Every time I encounter something or someone out of the ordinary, I have this impulse to freak out inside. When I start freaking out, that's when I can't see anything anymore. I know that this is not a good thing so I'm trying to fix it.

I know this may not be a fairy encounter, but for future encounters, can anyone give me some tips on how I can get over this impulsive fear?

It's totally natural to freak out when something unexpected like that happens, Adamaris. When we're not really prepared for something, our first survival instinct is to assume it's a threat of some kind. :/ Major bummer, huh? I've had the same kind of thing happen too, where you think you want to see something, or you want something to happen…and then when it does, it's so freaky that you kind of instinctively shut it right back out. MAJORLY annoying.

Best idea I've got about this is to kind of work yourself up to it mentally. Maybe run some scenarios in your head, daydream them, or whatever, where you actually have some kind of fae encounter. When you first do this, be perfectly honest with yourself about how you would really feel, and how you'd **really** be likely to react. ..and then start intentionally shaping your daydream in such a way that you react to the fae in whatever way you'd **prefer** to react. Run through a few different kinds of scenarios, with meeting different kinds of fae under different situations. This might help mentally condition you so that when/if you do meet a fae, you'll have a better response ready to hand than the initial fear/survival instinct.

I find that it's more about what your heart is ready to accept than about what your head thinks it wants to happen. Sometimes the frightened heart can take some persuading.

not only will being emotional obscure your vision. I don't get scared much but I do want to talk to the spirit if I can. If you try to analyze it does the same thing. The trick is to catch yourself. The time I saw the green lady, I was really tired having had worked over night the night before and only having an hour of sleep. the analytical part of my mind wasn't up to par so I was able to get a good look before the left brain took over and obscured the vision. I think if you practice observing an object or animal without looking at it directly and just observing without analyzing will help train your mind to jump to that analytical mode so quick. Visualization may help too. instead of thinking " what is that" learn to watch and observe. At least thats how I'm working on the problem

Thank you Athidal and Bluefirepheonix for your great advice. Yes, I find that I get really annoyed with myself when I freak out like I do. Sometimes I feel really bad that I freak out instinctively. I will train my mind not to jump at anything out of the ordinary and do what you both suggest.

I think perhaps it is also my experiences in the past that contribute to my impulsive fear. When I was a lot younger I used to experience out-of-the-ordinary things quite often. And a lot of times, they were pretty negative experiences and being around people who would perpetuated that negativity didn't help much.

But now, I definitely need to be more responsible over how I handle my emotions and learn how to rewire my mind to react more appropriately if i ever meet another spirit or a Fae. I don't think they like it when humans freak out like crazy when they try to approach us. I'm sure they feel our emotions to some degree.

And thank you FloralDreams for the wonderful e-hug :D
