I am in a hurry to write something about a thing I saw in plain daylight on Friday, November 20, 2009 in rural Banks County, Georgia a short ways off of State Route 51 and about two miles north of the tiny village of Mount Pleasant, Georgia. What I saw up there in the woods was strange enough to write you here about it. The details are very fresh in my mind.
My job is to sell low-cost homeowner's insurance in rural counties. Usually, these customers only have rough cabins with wood fire heating (which runs up insurance costs) and cannot be insured by the major companies. My own company takes up this slack.
I arrived on a sunny morning at a very modest cabin in Banks County. It was at the end of a dirt road behind a small stand of trees. Much of the area is forested. I was greeted by a very old woman who told me that she lived alone, but would like to take out a policy on her cabin. I needed to inspect the place and take some pictures, as is routine before offering a contract.
I was walking around to the shed outside when I saw a totally hairy and muscular biped of some sort stacking wood. This thing wore no clothes, but had very long hair covering its entire body. It had a black nose and very large eyes and a mouth very much like a human being, but not quite. It was hard at work stacking wood and did not seem to notice me. I should also mention that it was no bigger than around 3-foot, 5-inches tall, if even that. It was, however, very plump and wide. It made a grunting sound as it worked. It seemed very strong.
I asked the lady what on earth it was, and she casually replied that it was a "woods helper" and that many of the county's old-timer residents had one from time to time to help them with tasks that they were too old to handle. These "woods helpers" only asked for food and some drink. The woman also explained to me that they drank only beer and never seemed to be drunk or disorderly. She said they had been a blessing since long ago to many of the older people in the area. She did not know what species they were. In fact, she did not even understand the word "species," which is not unusual for rural people like her. She said that everybody knew about them, but that not many people liked to talk about them.
I got one more look at the thing before I drove off. It was moving rocks into a runoff ditch this time. It looked like something from a sci-fi magazine or even a comic book. But it was real.

On October 12th, 2009 in Lake Ariel Pennsylvania, a strange incident occurred. I enjoy building little forts in the woods near my house, and I was gathering straight, four-foot-long branches, which are hard to come by. I had gathered about 15 of them, then it was time to go inside to do my homework (it was 4:00 p.m.). I piled the branches neatly in a stack in the middle of a clearing in the woods. I walked to the house and began my homework on the patio.
Once I was finished, I went inside to watch my favorite daily cartoon on TV. At 6:30, the show finished and I got bored. I went on my computer and heard a rustling in a few leaf piles outside my open window. I excused it as one of several of my outdoor cats, and went on with my computer time. At 7:00 I ate my supper and watched the news. I went to bed to read at 9:30 after folding some laundry. I fell asleep at 10:30 and woke up at 8:00 a.m.
I ate my breakfast at 8:15 and watched a cartoon at. At 9:00 it finished so I got dressed and went outside. I had my binoculars for bird watching, and a notebook and pencil to record the birds I saw. I noticed the leaf piles were scattered around the yard and they had to be re-raked. I ignored the fact that more helping my mom rake the yard was coming, and I set straight out to the woods.
I came to work on my branch pile, and saw that about 50 branches, perfectly 4 inches around, and four feet across, had been placed there. I gasped, wondering who found these perfectly straight branches. I was planning on extending my ground bird-watching fort as I hauled several branches at a time to my site. Once I had updated my fort, I sat on the old rickety swing set and read for an hour. I walked around the front of the house for 15 minutes, just poking around ant hills and messing around with grasshoppers.
I came to the backyard to go back to my fort when I saw at my stick piling site, believe it or not, a little human-like creature! It freaked me out just looking at it. I noticed it was piling sticks in the piling site for me — those perfect, four-inch-around and four-foot-across sticks. The perfectly straight ones. The ones without fault. The little man was climbing trees and snapping out branches. I gasped as it nimbly hopped out of trees and dropped sticks onto the pile.
He was about four feet tall with a hunch in his back and brown hair all over. All I could make out of it is that it was creepy. He had such long hair that it covered everything on its body. Its hands had no hair and they were white. I saw no visible nose, but black beady eyes. He walked like a monkey. I freaked out and stood rooted to the spot. Suddenly, my legs felt ice cold and I ran away, trembling. As I ran, my legs heated up and felt like they were on fire.
When I was in the house with my shade and window closed, all doors locked and shutters closed, I relaxed in my room, cuddling my big golden retriever, Sudsy. We both fell asleep, but we both woke up to the rustling of leaves outside. I cracked open my shutter the tiniest bit and saw the scary human-like creature racing through the leaves, bouncing up and down, and speeding around in circles. It took handsful of leaves and threw them in the air as it danced under the decaying shower. Sudsy growled and the animal stopped dancing, rooted to its spot. It looked shame-faced at the messed up leaf piles and slouched away. My eyes followed its progress as it made its way to the woods. It hopped nimbly into the trees and gathered sticks (presumably for me). It laid them in pile and, suddenly noticing me, it straightened up and grinned at me with crooked, rounded, stubby teeth. It waved its left foot at me, as if it was a greeting, then left, disappearing into the treetops.
For the next few days, it left me sticks until my mother screamed at the sight of my helper. I had started leaving him grapefruit halves, which he ate gratefully, but after the screaming, he peeped through my shutters and then never returned. I have always remembered this unusual creature finding the perfect sticks, but never had Shingle (which I named him) return again. Although Sudsy finds Shingle's footprints in various places in the mud, I have never, ever seen my woods buddy ever again. (Although I occasionally leave out grapefruit, hoping Shingle may one day return.)"
Lake Ariel is not too far from my part of Pennsylvania. This being may be the type of being I have seen standing across the street from my home under the full moon in October. I only saw his shadow- he didnt appear in visible form if it was him. The shadow was stocky and about 3' tall.
Last Winter before Christmas, our family awoke to find all uniform sized pine branches neatly placed in our front yard in a nice row at the front of the property. There were no branches in front of our neighbors property on either side- just ours.
My father let the dogs out that morning and noticed them first. He thought it was wierd and threw all the pine branches onto the road. I took them all off of the road and put them in our container on the front porch and inside my bedroom. I knew that it was somehow faerykind related – as I am always greeting any faerykind on my walks on that road- and I am practically hugging every tree I see– even though the passing by motorists must think I'm a really looney toon…hehehe!
No doubt, that Being that I saw in shadow form across the street this October must have seen me on my walks. I got a good vibe from him when I saw that shadow there. Maybe it is the same type of being! God bless e'm!

3) A lot of you seem to be asking why fairies haven’t responded right away even though you have followed our suggestions and here’s my answer– I know it’s disappointing and frustrating when you don’t get results right away but when this happens, it could be because there were no fairies around to interact with. It can take a while for them to notice you–especially in the winter time. And, even when they notice you, it isn’t an absolute guarantee that they will want to communicate with you instantly. Sometimes they want to check you out and see if you are the type of human they would like to connect with. Fairies tend to be shy and mistrusting of humans and they generally have little time for humans who, in their view, have thoughtlessly mistreated the earth we both share. This is often a big obstacle that has to be overcome and you will probably need to prove yourself and earn their trust before they will decide to reach out to you. So, how can you prove yourself? Well, in order for the fairies to have a good opinion of you, you will need to let them see that you care for our earth and the environment. Recycling, tending a garden, looking after wildlife (I was a wildlife rehabilitator, for example), conserving energy, composting, reusing instead of discarding, and using natural products are all good ways to show the fae that you are sincere. But, proving to them that you are sincere and that this isn’t just another passing fancy for you, can take some time. How long it will take depends on you, and how sincere they perceive you to be. If you are patient and show them you are a caring, respectful, and dedicated person, they may reward and encourage you with a small glimmer of their presence. Be watchful because these offerings of their presence could go unnoticed to those who aren’t paying close attention. That little glimmer you thought you saw, that missing item, or that movement out of the corner of your eye could be one of those. If they see that you notice, you may get more of their attention and presence. Be sure to thank and encourage them anytime you think they have reached out to you.

should learn to look with their heart and soul instead of their eyes.
The world would be a lot better place if people learn to do so—- Iris
thanks, Chicanarocio!. I was trying to find that excerpt Natalie posted. That is very true! It is Winter- and with all this wierd weather we are having all over America right now , I wouldnt be surprised the faerykind is very busy with Nature- trying to help it adjust from freak snow falls, etc.
I haven't see any fairy or was a believer at first, but my sister in-law, Joyce, is from Scotland and grew up listening to fairy tales from her grandmother. She now lives in the mountains of British-Columbia, Canada.
A few years ago (about 3 years), there was a forest fire that was treating her area in the mountain; I forgot to mention, Joyce collect fairy statues and lot more, she is a true believer! The fire grew rapidly and was jumping from side to side; the fireman lost all control in a matter of a really short time. They were asked to leave their home "Now" and given little time to gather the necessities. But Joyce took all the fairies she could find near her and place them into a circle on the living room carpet while her husband and daughter were packing a few things. When the fireman return to tell them that it was more time that they could alow them to remind in the area (about 10 min. or less) Joyce turned to her fairies and asked them to protect their home and that she would be back soon for them.
Like it was all over the news I immediately call Joyce on her cell phone (portable) and offer them refuge to my house, then spending time at the hotel where they had been evacuated. At my surprise she refused and added that she will be back to her home very soon! I announced to her that the news group had reported that the whole area had burnt, but she persisted and choose to stay, that when she explained to me that her fairies were taking care of business‚! Well you just got to imagine the look on my face…Everything was BURNING!
Four days later, the fire was now under control and people were allowed to go and inspect the damages to there properties, everything had been reduced to ashes…Except Joyce's property!!! It like the fire surrounded her house, it burnt the whole side of the mountain and spare that little circle of green grass…the flowers in her garden were still blooming…No one could explain what had happen, and the firefighters were risking their reputations to tell them that maybe this was luck!!! Joyce told them about the fairies! As she related the stories about fairies to the fireman, a few of the man who could not explain what had happened agreed with her. We don't have to see to believe! The fairies were at work on that day.
Since, I have tried to find as much information about fairies that we share to each other, she is also sharing with me the fairies tales from her native land. I'm also the proud owner of a few fairy statues. Joyce and I are now looking forward to tell my 3 years old daughter all about the magic of fairies! Even if we haven't encounter with fairies, we know that they were there, protecting her house.

Re: Has anyone actually seen a fairy, or gnome in this group? Fri, August 15, 2008 – 2:30 AM The first experience I had with the fae I remember very vividly, though I forgot it for a long time. My grandparents had a big backyard with fruits and vegetable gardens and an herb garden. Once, when I was around 5, I spent the night there and after watching Fern Gully with my grandpa, we went out and I helped him in the garden and as we worked, I asked him if fairies were real. He lifted me onto his shoulders and let me pick out fruits of my choice to put on a plate for the fairies. I picked cherries and we put them on a plate with some sweetened bread and a small bowl of honey. By that time it was time for bed and he tucked me in and said "Be careful of they fae, for they loved to play games, some games would be joyful and fun, but some games might not be, for there are fae who like to play tricks." That night, after I knew my grandparents were asleep, I went back into the garden. I was scared and thought I heard whispers. I could see things moving in the corners of my eyes, but when I tried to look right at them, they were gone. Suddenly, right in front of me was a little girl. I reached to her and she placed her hand on the back of my hand. She said "Do not forget us, do not forget this world is our heart as it is yours." I heard her words, though she never moved her mouth and I know now that she spoke to my heart and not to my ears. I forgot about this for many many years until I walked through a store in my city which had one copy of The Faeries Oracle. When I opened the book, the first card I saw was The Maiden, and though she looked nothing like the small girl from so long ago, the events of 10 years past had all come back to me and the Fae in all there games, tricks, and wisdom have been with me and shown themselves to me ever since.
Sorry to bore you all with my novel. It's hard not to share when you have people you can share with.
When the writer posted how this Faery spoke to her heart- that's how they spoke to me too :-) It's hard to explain to people, so it is nice to read someone else knows what I mean!

Someone posted this personal encounter in the Faery Congress forum on Tribenet. I've read of other people's modern experiences of seeing faery's dancing late at night in a faery ring.
I usually do this kind of work in meditation so I don't see fairies in the material world except for one Samhain about three years ago. I was taking some break and honey out to one of my circles at midnight (which I'm usually far too lazy to do but that year I was trying to do ritual at midnight more than I usually do). When I got out there my eyes had pretty much adjusted to the moon light tho it was definitely hazy and I saw what appeared to be a HUGE circle of dancy, tiny little beings going around where the circle was — which was around a hawthorn tree. I just set the offering down and backed off but considering how tiny they were it would have been thousands. It was so stereotypical of what I grew up thinking "fairies" were and so different from what I do in meditation that I didn't know where to put it, but I just took it as a cool thing and a kind of a gift.
New to the group so take care and nice to speak with you, leslie l. (maine, USA)

My fairy encounter started with a warning from my grandma who told me when she was alive, that in order to pick a four-leaf clover you pick it in the morning right as the dew is about to leave, because the fairies will be busy at that time. Or, she would tell me, to pick it in the afternoon shortly before the sun goes down. Well, this stayed with me to my adult years. When my kids were wanting to pick a four leaf clover I told them it would make the fairies upset that you are taking it without their permission. I informed them if they don't hold onto their clovers the fairies would come and take them. They found their clovers in the morning that same day, when we got home, they put their clovers on the counter. I thought I would sit back and watch what would happen. While they were playing in their room, I made a note of where they were on the counter and did a quick assessment if a breeze could come in and blow them etc… then I went to my bedroom to change. When I came back out, they were gone. I could have sworn I heard a small giggle and called the kids out of their playing and showed them that their clovers are missing because they didn't take care of them. To this day, no one knows where their clovers went, but I know. =)

Okay, so I’m just a young 13 year old girl with a huge obsession with faeries. My big sister and I used to believe in faeries and play games about them when we were young. But as time went by faeries became more of just a fairytale to her. When she entered junior high I was the on my own to still carry on my childhood dream of one day proving the existance of faeries. But I’ve had several experiences with the world of “makebelieve” faeries. Most of these occurrences happen when the weather is nice and the flowers begin to bloom (like the setting of most faerie sightings and occurrences). I am a girl of both natural beauty and makebelieve. I love to go to naturally green and flowery places and feel like I am entering a place of magic, where you could expect to see faeries sitting on petals and a unicorn could just fly past your head. Anyway, several times when everything is quiet and it’s like I described before, I hear strange sounds. It sounds Almost like a small, soft hum comming from flower gardens and bushes. And then this one time when I was alone and everything was quiet, I saw a shiimering glow floating above a flower and I heard that same strange humming sound but now it almost sounded like singing and it was comming from where I saw the shimmering glow. So very quietly I went to go check it out’ but when I got too close the glow “flew” down and sank beneath the flower garden. But I still sometimes hear that sound and see those shimmering figures in late spring, but I can never get too close to tell if it actually is a faerie. But I am still young and one day I hope to prove the existance of these creatures. This was a true story.
This person took photos of the faeries in her garden- She doesnt allow right click so I couldnt save the photos or her blog post about them.. But here's the link, so you can check it out for yourself http://hidyaphrodite.webs.com/…..enspot.htm

Hehe I have seen one cheeky little gnome (?) running around a bushland park a few years ago. But nothing since has appeared visually and as clear as that. I often feel the presence of Faeries and regualrly hear giggeling and laughter – always whilst out in nature. A few months ago i was in a very powerfull place called Kaijini In Western Australia. I was walking in a gorge when i heard music. Wind instruments, string instruments, other instruments i couldn't identify and female voices singing but not in lanuage (or perhaps just one so vastly different from anything i have heard before, to be unrecognisable). I stopped and first thought 'hmmm it sounds as if there's a group of people round the corner playing music' of course there was no one round the corner and nothing but a quiet pool and a patch of long grass….
I once saw a gnome, in an old garden in Atlanta Ga. I have searched for years and years for people who actually believe in the Fae, and on the 'Net, I have found mostly stories from little kids and, every once in a while, an adult. I combed the paranormal sites and posted my own story. I am so excited to find this site and to find that many of the members are elders! At least looking at the slide show I think so. So, hello I am Caro and I live in Savannah Georgia in a magick garden, which my husband and I created a few years back, out of a scrubby little sand lot, which did have some old camellia trees on it and a Nandina Hedge. We just held our first full moon celebration out there July 18th. Hello out there Fairy Friends
I have a fun story to share… My best friend's dad is a gentle man in his sixties, he's spent most of the past 25 years in the garden tending his award winning roses. Though he had never before expressed beliefs in anything having to do with fairies, he non-the-less experienced a first hand encounter which he could not deny. Several years ago while out in the garden, Martin saw a small man standing next to a bush. At first he thought it was his son and turned back to his work, he then realized that this person was much too small to be his son! He turned around at once to find himself quite alone in his garden, the tiny man had vanished in the blink of an eye! "There is no doubt," Martin told us. " I saw a gnome!"
