Should I Be Suspicious?

Hi everyone!

I'm not sure if I encountered a Fae or ghost or what, but I thought I would share this anyways.

A few nights ago I was meditating (well, to be specific I was attempting astral projection, something I'm having quite a lot of difficulty with, but practice makes perfect!) and usually while I meditate, instead of trying to completely clear my mind, which I find actually distracts me even more, I just let my thoughts run and eventually they simply quiet down and disapear. When I got to that 'quiet' stage, I had a moment of silence before a voice popped into my head. Immediately I could tell it wasn't a thought of my own because it 'sounded' different (as weird as that sounds). But anyways, I heard someone say, 'Hey…hey!' and got an impression of someone blowing in my ear, I suppose to get my attention. Then they said, 'I need you to sign (see?) this…' I'm not sure if they said 'sign' or 'see' or if they even finished their sentence because the voice became almost static-like before it was gone, leaving me rather confused.

I grew up being told to not trust the Fae, Seelie or Unseelie, because of their cleverness and to always be wary of what they say or ask you to do. So, if the voice did indeed ask me to 'sign' something, should I be extremely suspicious? Are there contracts or something similar that the Fae use? Or was this just a random ghost poking fun? (which has happened before. My house is quite old and, uh, attractive to the otherside =P)

On a similar note, sometimes I worry that hey, maybe I'm going a little crazy hearing voices and such every now and then and seeing things. How do you deal with that and assure yourself that you're not nuts? I find everyone who channels the Fae or spirits very brave. I don't know if I would be able to do that.

I've got a strong background in spirit work most of which isn't involving sidhe but I have had things like this happen, particularly with Enochian work.. Those tuning in moments can be startling at first. The fear installed into people by society of spirits is for the most part unwarrented. Yes there are nasties out there yes they sometimes go after people but as a rule they don't try to communicate they just slide in, do whatever nasty they want to do and leave.  I don't think the sidhe are malicious just uneasy and not given to quick friendships with humans as a rule.

If the spirit wants to make a pact with you be very very careful Everything you say even meaning something else can be used and its binding . Pact breaking can only be done once and is very difficult if you get into trouble.  On the other hand there are significant benefits ( for both parties) of a well done pact.  It's usuallly considered an advanced technique. There is an occult author that does deal in depth with the subject …. well actually two that I know It's in the context of demonology ( grimoire Vernum) but the principles are applicable to all settings.  If that is your interest I can provide the information privately.

If I were in your situation I would investigate try to make contact again and find out what is going on. This will help ease your mind for one thing and gain skill for another.  I would not assume evil intent unless it makes itself readily apparent.  Continue to pursue contact as before except before the meditation explain that you only preceived part of the message and could it be repeated.  Note any symbols that appear and write them down They're important for contact.  Usually the message is for you alone unless otherwise specified. At this point it's not possible to identify the type of spirit more information is needed. It can be difficult to tell the difference. The limited experience I have with the sidhe I've seen some that look quite a lot like the less powerful angels and had some difficulty identifying the type of spirit  in that case. ( took a couple weeks of hard research to do it)

Thank you so much for your detailed reply, Bluefirephoenix!

I'll definitely try what you have suggested in regards to trying to make contact again and especially if the message can be repeated. I've always had a blank diary of sorts sitting on my bookshelf; now I think is a good time to use it. This feels like something I won't ever want to forget.

If you're still willing to share the information you have regarding pacts, I would greatly appreciate it.
