Hey guys, I haven't posted much recently coz I've been busy (as usual)
Do you still remember I talked about Fawna and Tawny? Yeah they tried contacting me physically one day when a dragonfly landed on my sports bag, and *facepalm* being the idiot that I am, freaked out instinctively at first "OH MY GOD" and froze in place, until I questioned that it was just a dragonfly, and a guy friend of mine noticed my panic and before I could get a closer inspection at it he just shooed it away D: They also weren't very happy with my freaking out >.>
But it really got me thinking, why is it that girls have this "proximity of freaking out" when it comes to insects and arachnids and worms? Why don't boys have that too? >< (ok well there is only one guy that I know is like that but it's only after a traumatizing event.)

I think the dragon fly might possibly have been somethign else. I've seen that here kinda startled me cause they make so much noise when they fly. but there's no water other than a peat bog nearby. ( peat bogs don't have standing water just soaking wet moss) I will be watching them carefully next year when I start doing some serious garden work.
Had to come to a truce about spiders I hate them but I know theyre good for the garden so I say… any spider outside fine. If it's inside it's squash.

I don't know what it is, Midnight's Song. That's a good question. Maybe it goes back to the things we're taught when we're little, about how boys are supposed to like bugs and girls are supposed to be afraid of them? It's a stupid cliche, but I know I wasn't afraid of bugs and was pretty curious about them until my grandmother kept telling me when I was three that they were going to 'get' me. For years after that I was totally petrified of all bugs and spiders. (Thanks, Granny. -_-)
I think it's mostly just what our culture teaches us about how we're supposed to react. So if you're afraid of bugs and don't want to be, at least when you make that choice you aren't fighting any kind of natural instinct. :)
You might want to have a talk with Fawna and Tawny and specifically tell them what the problem is. I think a lot of times the fae are so used to being in harmony with bugs that it just doesn't occur to them that humans might have hangups. Specifically, if you know you are likely to react in a certain way over bugs, especially specific kinds of bugs, you might wanna let Fawna and Tawny know that so that they can work around that when they try to communicate with you.

Well lots of other people in my grade, or ever older fear spiders or other bugs. I , am not afraid of them because my father collected tarantulas when I was young, and quickly got used to them. But I still do not feel comfortable with spiders or bees, because I am allergic to bug bites and have been bitten by spiders alot, and stung by a bee.
I think it is just the way they crawl, all those legs they have, all those eyes that scares people.

I am the total exception to this rule.
As a kid, I was the one with the pet spider. I saved a butterfly with a broken wing (though c'mon, everyone loves butterflies.) I carted ladybugs around in a toy truck. I picked up worms from the sidewalk and put them where they belonged.
But for me, I've always loved dragonflies. I find them so gorgeous, and love it when they climb all over me :)
This year in foods class, we had a silverfish infestation. Guess who took them home? Yeah.
Anyways, lunno, guess some girls must have a thing for bugs? Once when I saved a dragonfly with a broken wing by holding it on my hand until it could fly and this guy went all "omg, put it down, it's poisonous!!!!" Yep :P
Best advice I can give you is to try to see the beauty in everything. That makes it so much easier to love them.

Thats actually a good point. Those of us who fear bugs most likely have turned away from a possible fairy encounter without even knowing it!
Secondly you are right as to the fact that girls tend to be the ones afraid of bugs, with the exception of few guys. I personally think its the fact that guys need to keep up their "tough guy" persona and that does not include being afraid of bugs.
Those who are able to admit their fear are comfortable enough in their own skin and dont have to always be the big fearless hero of the situation :P Thats my opinion

Dragonflies is a form that faeries take sometime.
And if you keep repeating something to yourself, girls are afraid of bugs, it'll make you believe it to be true.
I was never scared of bugs, but I'm scared of big birds…..>.< I mean look at how abnormally their bodies are shaped! Yuckkkkk! and they have feathers growing out their bodies which are like fur but all freaky! then they're all diseased and buggy and they have these evil little eyes that are so inhuman…ughhh…..

As a guy, I'm fascinated by insects and arthropods but I'll still scream like a little girl when they fly into my face. Last week I had just climbed out of the shower to find a smallish spider on my shoulder with legs raised. I screamed in utter terror before calming down and looking for it so I could examine the specimen and remove it with a glass and paper. So you're not alone!

Yes I did sort that out with Fawna and Tawny, but they probably won't be able to find a physical portal anytime soon. It was one of those rare opportunities when the veil split apart like that. I'm trying to not be afraid of the big bugs. But again, cockroaches O_O, they know I'm afraid of them. I don't know why some of the girls can even dare to pick them up by the antennae to lead them back.
I really admire those of you who aren't afraid of bugs. I really blame my childhood for this (thanks great aunt -.-, I remember she kept on saying they're unhygienic and they're gonna infect me. AND when I brought home a grasshopper she said they'll pick on the plastic wrap ((it had holes to give it breathing space)) and jump out of the box at night and crawl into you) by the way, isn't it special that the dragonfly I encountered is brown? The "normal" colours I usually see is red and green (well hey! Fawna and Tawny have brown clothes most of the time!)

Little bugs and insects have always been around me and where I live ever since I can remember so they dont bother me they're just a part of my life I suppose. But I can understand about someone who is not used to them or doesn't know much about them to be scared or afraid of them. Apparently insects continously secrete liquid to keep them clean and then are completely germ free and much cleaner than humans.

My two cousins have a fear of bugs- and my youngest cousin was in the Peace Corps in Africa- but she handled her fear of bugs rather well there– so I'm proud of her :-)
I can't judge those of you who have a fear of bugs- because all of us humans have some sort of fear– it may not be bugs, but it could be worms, or some other animal.
I do love birds– including crows, and I love bugs as well- and I do love dragonflies, lucky for me, as I believe some of the Fae shapeshifted into dragonflies for me as well in recent years- and they came right up to me and my little nephew in the exact colors of the shirt my little nephew would wear. I NEVER saw dragonflies in those colors either- (Bright tomato red and the latest one was bright kelly green with bright denim blue accents, and these were NOT the smaller neon damsel fly, but the large dragonfly)
Don't feel bad that you have a fear of bugs- Eventually, that fear could pass with time. I am not too fond of worms, though Earthworms don't bother me. Parasitic worms I read about and saw in photos gross me out.
hugs
Lisa

THAT'S NEWS TO ME! Oh my goodness I'll just have to keep telling myself that so that the fear can pass!
Lisa: strangely enough I've seen MANY dragonflies that are of that colour you described, mainly back in my primary school field. Tomato red, shiny green, maybe they're just native to my area :) they were pretty large too and I used to cower O_O sigh, my demented childhood.
I love birds too! I also like crows, and admire the big birds even if I haven't seen them in the wild before (zoos, bird parks. And yes, I was partially afraid of crows once. Grandaunt's fault again. She said that if I managed to catch them they'll swarm in and attack me) Did I say I love rodents too? I love all furry animals, even tigers and lions XD

You'd love the birds around here we have huge Crows to begin with then Ravens as well but the Ravens hardly ever let you see them they hang out following and calling but I've only seen them twice. We have several Bald Eagles as well( the main reason my very white cat is an indoor cat)

You think GIRLS are afraid of bugs? Ha ha.
Once I was in high school eating my lunch quietly, and there was a whole group of boys at a table behind me. From what I could hear they were all talking tough to each other. Suddenly, they all screamed and backed away from the table, a few of them slamming right into me. The guy that bumped into me looked me in the eyes, noticed I was a girl, and went, "Oooh, sorry!" Then they went back to eating. Three minutes later, the same thing happened again — screaming, backing away from the table, and general panic. I turned around to see what was the matter. There under the table was a tiny millipede crawling around, barely an inch long.
I know millipedes are gross, but seriously, most of them are tiny. TEENY TINY.
Of course, every time I find a bug in my house, I pick it up in my hands and carry it outside, even if it's a spider. I think they're cute, tiny, and relatively harmless.

Bluefirephoenix, I love ravens too! When we used to vacation in Ontario every July, we'd see some at Algonquin Provincial Park. They seem to live in Canada alot more than in the US. They are highly intelligent birds- even more so than crows, which is probably why they don't come too close to humans so you dont' see them all the time.
Crows are smart as it is too- I remember a recent documentary about them about how they have a good memory and have been found to intentionally poop on the windshields and property of humans who constantly scare them away. They will actually reward people who are nice to them by dropping shining things near where they always see that person.
Good idea keeping your kitty indoors..lol!!
Midnight's Song, I love rodents too– I think that if humans stop trying to kill off their natural predators, there wouldnt be such an over-abundance of them in certain areas. Where I work, they laid out some of those toxic sticky traps to kill any that get indoors due to trying to find warmth from the freezing cold outside.
I tried to save one little one who kept squeaking and tried to free itself. It was a little one, I felt so horrible because I knew it was going to die– there is no way to get them off of those sticky resin mousetraps once they get stuck on one of them. It's a horrid way to die for them. I tried using a plastic spoon to pry the little one off, and will never forget it's little eyes looking directly at me while it was stuck there. I felt so horrible that it ruined my entire day at work.
It may sound silly to some , but I actually said a prayer for his/her little soul that it could go back to the Light- where Love is, because the poor thing sure as heck didnt find any love here in it's short little life. What a horrible way to die for any animal- no matter how small! :-(

Lisa: I did the same thing when my brother killed a grouper while fishing X( it ruined my boat ride (but it isn't anything much since it was near the end) well, fishing out a fish is fine if they become ok after this, but then urrrgh it's the slow pace of my family members in trying to take a photo while I kept on shouting THROW IT BACK BEFORE IT DIES! But it died, unsurprisingly -.-
ForeverKokiri: I find millipedes interesting, the way they curl up for protection and all that, but I still won't dare to touch it (bugs are clean, bugs clean themselves, bugs can do that without water, bugs are germ free.) *ehem* affirmations. lol. Eventually I'll probably try to pick them up wit my hands.
It must really be cultural brainwashing. I admire Roald Dahl to have written "James and the Giant Peach" for this. It helps get rid of the cultural belief
