While watching some Lammas project videos and talking them over with a good friend of mine we got the insane idea of looking into old mechanisms and applying them to these eco houses. I wanted some opinions on the idea of using old environmentaly harmless technologys in new ways, what they could replace and how much of the house could rely on these.

I also wanted to throw the idea of solar pannels built to look like trees out there for some discussion too.

I think that's a great idea, Momo. There's a lot of potential there. It's worth remembering that the houses our ancestors lived in did depend on all of those old technologies. :) Of course, it's also good to remember that there were probably reasons why old tech was scrapped in favor of newer tech, so the downsides of the old tech are always worth checking into. (For example, I just found out that log cabins are not only drafty, but squirrels like to eat the wood in them! Who'da thunk of squirrels eating your house? o_O )

Some other things you might want to think about when digging up these old technologies would be: what materials were used to make them, and could we use something else that would be more environmentally friendly or sustainable? If you want to run them with electricity, could they be made to work with small amounts of power, such that you could maybe run them off solar cells installed on your roof?

You might be interested to know, since you mentioned a tree as a solar cell (and that would be pretty, I bet!) that there is also someone looking into technology to make artificial leaves that generate electricity from water. Last I heard they were getting backing from a company in India to research this. There should be more info out there on the internet if you're interested.

I am very interested thankyou for sharing.

I was planning on trying to get things that would run without electricity if possable, so that the only things that would need elctricity would be things like the computer, which could be run off a smaller number of solar cells. I'm still looking into how the house could be build with as little impact as possable on the surrounding area. You have given me a bit to think about in terms of materials, maybie some models would help to see what best fits.
