Hi all haven't been around around for a while…
Anyway I've got a question: Today my dad put up a new picture in our house of an owl which he photographed a couple years back on our farm. It is framed in our living/dining room. Now my mom is not too happy about this because she is a bit superstitious and she doesn't like having the picture in our house.
Do you think there is anything that's potentially dangerous or threatening about the picture or is she just over reacting?
Thanx:)

I'm not quite sure I understand the problem. Does your mother not like owls or something? I'm not sure why she would be superstitious about it. But I suppose if she IS getting negative vibes from it, there could be something going on here. Maybe take a closer look at the picture to see if you can spot anything. If you can, upload a picture of it here. I'm rather curious now =P

Maybe it's because owls are considered bad omens (foretelling death, etc.) in many cultures. There's lots of stories about people dying or hearing about the death of a loved one soon after seeing an owl in the daytime or hearing them hoot. Perhaps that's why your mom isn't comfortable with the photo…just a thought.

Like Natalie said, Owls are considered as satan in many cultures. I believe that animals all have the same chances of being evil.
When I volunteer at a wildlife rehabilitation center, there is an owl and isn't so fond of me, but I see why people would be afraid. Like many birds, they snap their beak together to make a creepy noise, and they will follow your eyes deeply. But, many owls can be quite beautiful. Try explaining this to your Mom, and maybe she will understand.

Also, Is your dad a photographer? I would love to see his work…does he have a site, blog or anything? Just curious.

Owls are also a symbol of wisdom. When I think "Owl" I think "Wisdom", not anything negative. It's just superstition.

Hi everyone, thanx for the responses:)
@azure- Sorry I wasn't that clear; yes I think it is something about the superstitious side, she isn't getting any bad vibes from the picture to the best of my knowledge.
@Natalie- Yes you're right, when my grandmother first saw the photo she started getting all worried about the fact that it could mean death in the familie etc, just shows how backward my society kinda is I guess…
@Dante-Yes she's been brought up with that supersition so maybe that's why she automatically doesn't like it? My experience with owls have been all pleasent though. Lol I wouldn't call my dad a photographer but we are always taking pictures of wildlife and plants around the farm…
@stellar- I totally agree with what you said, I'm going to tell her that and get her to try and associate them with wisdom, not death.
Btw if someone could tell me how I could upload the photo for everyone to see:)
