I found this awesome website called GreyWater Action

http://www.greywateraction.org…..-recycling    that shows anyone how to conserve water and use  dirty bath, laundery or dishwater to use over again for your garden plants and bushes.

As long as you use non-toxic biodegradable cleansers– (including non-toxic shampoos and soaps) you won't be polluting your land, and many plants actually thrive on the properties of some of these cleansers.

If you live in a drought prone areas–  and many normally Drought free States are experiencing a Drought this year anyway–     you may want to take advantage of many of the great tips on that Grey Water Action website.

Hi Lisa,

I agree this is so important these days and every little helps. The site is a great source of advice. Especially with all the crazy hot weather the world has been having in the last 12 months.

Thanks  Danaan,  We in the United States  are having drought conditions and extreemly hot temperatures this Summer.    To make things worse,  the gas companies are going crazy drilling for gas all over my State and others– and the type of gas drilling they do involves using 6 million tons of water a day mixed with toxic chemicals.

With water already in short supply everywhere and not enough rainfall, they are drying up creeks , ponds, rivers just to get this 6 million tons of water a day for exploratory drilling as well as permanent drilling–  and you are talking over thousands of landowners who gave the gas company permission to drill on thier land.

They call it "Hydraulic Fracturing".     This has resulted in many places where methane and gas and chemicals leaked into groundwater resuliting in permanent water contamination.      One woman in our area flushed her toilet and her house blew up because the gas seeped into her well.   Because of the poor economy here, our politicians don't care about the harm this is all doing to our once beautiful environment, because all they care about is how much money the gas driling will make for their area.

Say a prayer for The United States–   We are going to eventually turn into one giant  Contaminated Desert down the road. We protest and send letters — but the big shots in power do what they want anyway.

I will say a prayer Lisa. its so heartbreaking to see it happening around you. One day water will be a precious commodity and probbably more valuable than oil. Luckily in Ireland because we are so small we are seriously looking more and more at suatinable enrgy sources and there are wind farms and wave harnessing facilities popping up all over the place. the only bad thing is that we still cut and burn peat bogs for fires they take thousands of years to form and can be dug up in a matter of weeks. Keep strong every thing you do no matter how big or small makes a difference and like ripples will affect others too.

This is a good idea. There isn't much of a water shortage here in canada our population density is much lower than the states. The only drilling I know of is off the shores of Newfoundland and after the incident in the Gulf I think that is on hold right now. Least when we left Halifax the rigs were still in the port. ( wouldnt believe the size of those things) However on this place I'd like to see if I can find the grey water discharge on the leech field could definetly be used to supply the garden. It's still a good system the leech field feeds back into the ground water anyway so its not like it's being wasted. There is a large tract of woods behind us ( large enough to get into serious trouble if you get lost back there.) We just have to be careful what we put down the drain here because the wrong thing could result in trouble. If your waste is done via spetic/leech field it's a pretty ecofriendly system anyway and should be self sustaining if you use it properly.
