So… where to start? I have learnt from previous experiences that in most online communities, it is generally frowned upon to not post an introduction, and so introduce myself I shall.

For starters, my birth name is not, and will never be, Hera. I dislike my birth name with a heated passion, and prefer not to go by it online, since I unfortunately am obliged to go by it in real life. Though I often go by Hera online, I am liking it less and less since it is the name of a goddess and feels almost disrespectful I guess…. so though it is my username, I would prefer being called Kalandra, or Kala for short, which I consider my 'true' name in a sense.

So, how shall I intro myself? I've never been very good at these, but I'd rather people know what I'm like from my intro, which would make things easier in the long run. I have been interested/have known faes since a very young age, so I think it's somewhat safe to say that my relationship with seelie faes is quite stable; at various times in my life, I have been close to different faes. Currently, my "closer" fae friend is a sprite or something who goes by the name of 'Thistle'. She's been here for about a year now, give or take, and doesn't seem to be leaving anytime soon. ^^

Finding faes has never been a problem for me. Where I live, there is a ton of wildlife; in fact, my backyard is a forest. I've had experiences with faes, as well as many animals; a long list which includes owls, raccoons, cats and Canadian Geese. The owl experience was quite recent actually, only a few short days ago. This has somewhat led me to believe that maybe my connection runs deeper than most, or there's something different about me.

So, another thing one should know about me is that I have some kind of a connection with 'the gryphon' which I think is technically classified as a fae.

You may have already noticed that I use the word 'fae' a lot. I dislike the term 'fairy', mostly because I find that that conjures up the image of darling little winged creatures frolicking among buttercups and believe me, some of the faes I have met were certainely not at all like THAT. I think generally, that 'fae' is a broader term that I use to describe all kinds of mythical creatures including actual fairies, unicorns, gryphs, dragons etc. That's just me though, so I thought I'd include that just to clear up any confusion before it begins.

Anyways, I'm happy to be here. Any questions, feel free to shoot me a PM, I'd love to hear from you ^__^

Hey there Kala! welcome to the site. You sound like you'll really fit right in with the rest of us here. And wow, you sound like a natural at communicating with the faeries. Please check out what this site has to offer. I'd love to PM you to collaborate on some ideas for faery spells and all sorts of stuff, since you seem to have no problem finding and talking to the fae, and I'm fairly proficient at spellcraft. However, that is a matter for another day. For tonight, welcome to real faeries, and I hope you enjoy your time here!

Why thank you ^__^ . I should hope I do.

I kind of have actually, for the past week or so :P This is certainely a great site :)

Sure, love to be at the receiving end of that PM. I'm not really much when it comes to spells (though I've never really tried before) but I'd love to chat fairies.

Thanks for the welcome :) I hope the rest of the members will be even half as nice as you <3

Welcome to our forum, Kalandra :-)

I wouldn't feel bad about  your birth name, Hera..   maybe the original Hera is your spirit guardian, and she inspired your mother to name you by her name!

I like Kala as well.      Please share your faery experiences with us!–  unless you already have-  I will have to check, since I've been offline a few days.

Please tell the sprite that is with you that I LOVVVVE her name-    I love THistles :-)   and please give her hugs and kisses from us here-  and tell her she is also welcome to participate whenever she feels- as these forums are for human and faerykind alike.

I spoke with a woman over a year ago who was given inspiration to paint portraits of pixies that would visit her and speak to her–   and she would see t hem in her mind's eye and paint how she would see them.    One of the pixies was named "Thistle".

We have some thistles starting to grow down the road from me-    and I can't wait to see them spring up!    The year I started  the faery's garden, a wild thistle sprung up right in the middle of the garden :-)

It's nice meeting you :-)

Hello Sairahiniel, DanceInTheRain, DakotaRisingMoon and Lisa Grey Eyes. Thank you for the warm welcome ^^

Heh, DanceInTheRain, I totally know what you mean :P

Thank you DakotaRisingMoon, I always have loved the letter K :)

Actually, Lisa Grey Eyes, my birth name is  not 'Hera', though I certainely feel a sense of connection with the Goddess herself. I would adore being named Hera. My 'real' name is 'Tessa', and it's annoying because I rarely respond to it, making my reflexes seem slow :P

^^ I'll be sure to post my experiences soon. I haven't had the time for a while, and finals are slowly approaching. Somehow, having Thistle around really doesn't help me study :P

Thistle says thank you ^^. Although I rarely call her by her real name. We're close enough now for me to call her 'Thiss', which is less wear on my lazy tongue, even though we're more telepathic when it comes to communication.

Any way you could link me to the woman's gallery, if she has one? I call Thistle a "sprite" for lack of better term, since she looks simular to one in the Spiderwick Field Guide, and I never have delved into the sub species of fairies. So maybe that could have been my Thistle ^^

I too love Thistle plants, though once Thistle thought to play a trick on me. When I touched a lovely thistle flower in mesmeration, it shocked me! (Honestly, like a real electric shock :P)

Nice to meet you too ^^

Hi Hera!

the woman who painted the painting of Thistle, and other Pixies named "Violet", etc,   had them up on this thread over at:

http://landoffaery.yuku.com/topic/29

The only thing is that I now see that her paintings are not showing now on the thread- she must have uploaded them over at Photobucket.com.  If you upload anything on that site, you have to keep logging on over there, otherwise, your photos won't show up.

I saved copies of her paintings on my computer, however ;-)   so I am going to see if I can upload them over at my Webshots album, and then upload them over here.

Here is her post regarding Thistle :-)

"Hi Everyone I had what I thought was a faerie talking to me to find out she is not a faerie but a pixie and she loves the fact I am painting her as well her name is Thistle which I found really different for a name for someone…so later on today I went looking to see if there are any pixies with this same name and wow blew me away there are quite a few of them called Thistle …she told me to keep painting and she will start to give me names of pixies which I agreed to so no problem there … What are the differences between a pixie and a faerie Boldy? Can you tell me this… As I did not see her except in my head to paint! So I do not know any differences between them? Any information on them would be great and I will post her picture once I am done it okay… thankyou… LOVE ~ LIGHT& ^J^ BLESSINGS… Norma Jean"

Why, hello Kala! Nice to meet you ^-^ And Thistle, too~

Your backyard sounds a lot like my own, actually! We have a few pixies (at least, I think they are) here and possibly a few other fae as well, but I don't know any of them by name yet…you're very fortunate to be on such a personal level with this sprite!

I can't wait to read more about your experiences~ I'm sure you'll have fun here on the forums!

yayy!  Hera,  I  can upload Thistle's painting now–

Here she is :-)       Norma Jean from the forum, "Land of Faery"  shared this with us-   she was guided by Thistle to paint her portrait , as were her other pixie friends, Violet and another beauty who told Norma Jean that she is a "Christmas Faery"    Thistle asked Norma Jean to paint the background yellow on this portrait.   She also appeared just like this in Norma Jean's mind's eye when she was meditating.     Norma mentioned that she was surprised how many pixies like the name "Thistle" ;-)

@ Lisa Grey Eyes

^^

Sorry my reply has been delayed. Finals and all :)

Oddly enough, the Thistle I associate myself with does not resemble a thistle plant in the least, though her dress is made of Thistle leaves. Her hair is a flower sprouting out of her head, which while I found it unusual, it was strange that it was more of a rhododendrum flower than a Thistle flower, but I suppose Rhododendrum is a bit of a mouthful. I prefer Thistle though :D

I asked Thistle what she looked like as a baby, and she said she was born with a bud on her head, which grew into her hair. Pretty cool :D
