Hi there
I live in Scotland and i heard that brownies do also. I hear that they are shy (so am i) so how can i communicate with them?
I live in a town, and my upstairs flat is next to the road. There is a Loch near by with a park, and there is also a wood next to the Loch water. Should i leave gifts for the bownies, and what do you think they would like? do they like chocolate brownies? (i do :P)
My little sister who is 6 also loves brownies and i take her to the Loch alot. It is quite snowy at the moment, so should i wait till spring.
btw im 13 :)

Hey good to see someone from Scotland on here. Brownies are usually found around homes. It's the other ones called Daoine sith that live in the hills and under lakes. What lives in the lakes generally you don't want to mess with. The hill sidhe are benevolent but have not had good relations with humans in that neck of the woods for awhile so it may take some work to earn their trust. If you take a look at the old stories, they paint them as demons basically. Brownies like any kind of cakes but oakcakes and milk are traditional offerings for them. once you start leaving stuff out though you have to be consistant or they get upset about it. ALso they are anal retentive about neatness and order. They might help but they do not like clutter and they like a quiet place with minimal commotion.
Your fighting an uphill battle with trust. They also are madly fond of music particularly fiddle and pipes. I think if you gain their trust it will be a really good thing for you. I don't think many people care about them anymore and a friendly human face might be interesting for them. The courts of hte sidhe in scotland are divided seelie and unseelie. The designation is used universally but it has specific meaning there.
Maybe you can help me out. We appear to have a very unusual sea inhabitant here ( some kind of seal) . I saw this creature when I was on hte beach last week. I had planned on getting back out but won't have a chance til tommorrow. what I did find out today was that I'm not the only one whose seen it, him? them? The animal was enormous for a seal well over double the normal size. The other person thought the head looked more like a sea lion than any seal from here. I didn't get a close enough look but the head of the animal I saw looked like a normal harbor seal just a whole lot bigger
I've been considering the possiblity it imight be a selkie, they're reported to be around but no one talks about it or what they look like or if anyone has really seen them in human form. The creatures behavior was unusually bold for a wild animal and didn't mind being close to me … a lot closer than I wanted him to be without knowning if he wanted a seal snack or not. I can see why people would think they're something not normal because that kind of behavior especially in areas where seals are hunted doesn't seem normal . Have you ever heard of any modern descriptions of selkies or a description of the seals.. are they unusually large or have unusual behavior? This thing was close to 20 ft. about the size of a pilot whale ( two car lengths)

I think it's fine to be out in the snow BTW. It's not good to be cooped up inside all winter.

I'm afriad I'd need to talk to someone from the Orkanys or shetland somewhere where they have a strong tradition. I need more description of the seal see if there are any unusual characteristics. THey can become either sex though. You hear more about the women. You didn't say where in Scotland you were I was hoping for the northwest islands. I appreciate you looking that up though
I read through most of the decent articles I found online. I always do that before asking. :-)
