So, what do you think could cause a fae changeling to forget who and what they are?

Being shoved into a human body normally does it for just about anything. Fae being born human as well, most human fae can't even remember that they ARE fae, the only thing they do know is that for the most part, the world makes no sense. They don't understand humans social normals, or important things such as time or money, and honestly, most of them don't care.
They also almost always attract attention, human attention, animal attention, other fae attention, and sometimes that attention is good and sometimes it isn't. Being a Changeling and not remembering who you are or where you came from is the same thing. If you ARE a Changeling, it means that someone had to stick you there, you didn't do it yourself. Your amnesia (for lack of a better term) could also be caused by someone not WANTING you to remember who you are until a certain time.
Sometimes faeries (particularly nobles) tend to "people watch", and when they decide where to drop you in the human world, they have to make sure that you'll do what they want you to, or what you're intended to do. If you bounce around remembering everything and telling everyone "guess what! I'm a faerie!" not only will no one believe you, but your VERY human parents might ship you off somewhere that you'll never get out of. All things must be taken into consideration, and while fae are chaotic to say the least, it's a controlled and sometimes, very planned chaos.

Why do fae create changelings?
|
Would you rather jump into the fountain of youth, or grow old with the one you love???

Fae create changelings so that we can learn more about you. For the most part, many of us cannot walk amongst you anymore. Eastern and Oriental faeries have an easier time doing this than we do, because their culture and religions as a whole still continue to believe not only in us, but that we have the power to walk among you, between you and next to you without you ever knowing that we're there. However, in the more European dominated cultures/places/religions/etc it's harder, so long periods of time go by and we have no idea what's been going on or how the world has changed, so we either kidnap people or place our own in your society in order to better learn how our world has changed and is continuing to change.
