I was just thinking, are witches real?

i don't mean Wiccons or people who call them selves witches. I mean REAL witches, like the ones in the past where some woman got accused as witches and got killed.

Yes Witches are real!!

Many people who were convicted during Witch hunts didn't call themselves Witches but practiced things closer to natural. For instance back during the times of the Inquistion a group of women were convicted of being Witches. They were known as Bequines. They were basically nun like women who lived in thier own communes on the outside of smaller villages.

There were midwives, and worked with herbal remedies etc. Because they led a life that was "different" than the Christians they were accused of being Witches and burned at the stake.

I was a Beguin in my past life, and am a Witch today!

Yes I can peform spells, and work with herbs, and do rituals to certain deities, but I dont have the powers to fly or blow things up like the girls on Charmed. LOL!

I definitely believe witches are real! Anything that hasnt been proven as fake is real in my books. I loved the show Charmed, and my two sisters and I always believed we were a reincarnation of the Charmed ones when we were little. Haha. I dont think the witches in our society are quite like that, more into herbs and remedies, but hey you never know!

Discussions about if magic is real tend to work like this:

The witch preforms a ritual in order to make it rain.

If it rains she claims magic is proven to exist, however she can't prove that it wouldn't have rained without the spell.

If it doesn't rain she claims there must have been a powerful spirit, which she can't prove exists, that blocked her attempt and simply tries again until it works.

There are people who certainly believe the spells and rituals they preform actually have an effect on things, they can't prove it as what they claim is happening isn't empirical and thus not studiable scientifically. Personally, I think if you want something to happen it is just more practical to go out and do it yourself rather than hoping a ritual will help.

This is also what's told to me in a Witchcraft book. When something as simple as getting a card stuck on top of the window, grab a pole and get it down instead of chanting, hoping it floats down somehow. 

Also, for the case of weather-manipulation as you said above, it's basically mind over matter stuff. 

lol! You called?? Yes magic is real. Wiccans are real witches and we practice a very old religion. In concerns of the stereotypical witch you mentioned which can turn demons to ash which a chant, unfortunately this is an oversimplification of a very complex process. Real magic is not as automatic or as powerful in this world. Magic in this world is defined as the directing of energy. Everything has its own energy and therefore everything is magical. Wiccans try to become aware of this energy, absorb its essence, and direct its flow toward a particular goal. Energy is tricky though. It scatters, gets absorbed by the environment and people, and its chance of acomplishing its goal is totally dependent on the state of the universe. The more energy outputted during a spell, the more likely your goal will manifest.

Magic is "the science of the control of the secret forces of nature"  ~ From your energy within you or the surrounding energy from plants, the moon, the stars, crystals, herbs ~ The most important thing to realize is that YOU hold the energy within YOU. Yes there are things that have high energy frequencies, but ultimately it is up to you to learn and train yourself. There will be many different opinions on "magic", and religions, or witches ~ thats why I try to stay open minded when putting anything on a forum because people tend to get very opinionated. Spells, Crafting, and Witchery have unfortunately been associated with a stereotypical influence as being bad (mainly because of the media, tv, modern world), this is why so many people instantaneously think "oh witchery? thats evil!" or "spells? thats the devil!" no no no no no!

There is no way one can summarize the beliefs of witches, for there is no orthodoxy in witchcraft. The names change from one group to another, and different groups emphasize different attributes of these powers. One can, however, easily state the central belief of all witches as regards human conduct. The witches law handed down through generations, is Harm None, and do what ye will (And believe that if any negative energy is purposely put on someone or something, that it will come back to you (karma) ~ so they never purposely harm or perform evil.. 

They protect, and use their worldly knowledge,  intuition (maybe even from past lives, bloodlines, and ancestors) , and the essence of living plants, herbs, crystals, and poems/prayers together that create a vibration of positive and natural energy (or if you like to call it, magic!) 

Witches?…  White Witches, Wiccans, Herbalist, Protectors of the Earth, Followers of God, the Goddess & Nature and the Moon. 

(Just as there is Good and Bad in all, there are bad witches called the black witches. But i do not associate nor talk about them. Everything I am about to express is describing White witches, Wiccans, the positive loving beings of the Earth and Moon)

First of all "spells" and "Chants" and "Witches" are just WORDS with MULTIPLE meanings! People are just not informed of the beautiful history and culture behind this! As Witchywoman expressed this is a very respected Old Religion (dating back to 25,000 B.C). The worship of the forces of nature, the belief that all living things have a soul, appears to have been equally ancient, as does belief in the influence of the sun, moon and stars on the destiny of man, the belief that all living things are subject to the same natural laws. 

I do not believe spells take from God either ; if you always have the intent to do good and are using natural supplies and ingredients. God created these beautiful plants, herbs, stones, which all hold their significant energy and natural source of enchantment. God gave us intelligence and creativity, and our own unique traits and gifts :) But please remember, that only our creator has the ultimate power and positive force ~ always keep God in your heart and mind when saying any spell, and be sure to know that GOD is the one who is helping you make this possible. You are using ingredients that have special energies to combine one specific powerful strong energy ~ these are Gods plants and herbs, so be sure to thank and keep in mind that he is who created them :)

Think about it… herbal medicine (a more modern term) is completely natural with plants, herbs, flowers, and is healing and therapeutic , I feel that "spells" are very similar to herbal medicine but you add your own touch by your personal energy and essences to absorb these vibrations.

Each one of us has a light inside of you, created by God, his desire is for you to use it to the fullest ability! 

From another point of view, "magic" might be defined as the power which causes an event or change to happen on command without any apparent physical cause or use of the known laws of nature. When we see something inexplicable that has clearly been intended to happen, people usually say "its magic!" or perhaps "its a miracle!"

Stage illusionists are commonly known as magicians. The different between stage magic and TRUE magic is that in TRUE magic what appears to happen has actually happened.

We have labelled many events as magical in the past simply because the natural lawas that caused them to occur had not yet been discovered or were not generally known. Hypnotisim was regarded as magic, for example. So was magnetism. Until the 20th century many folk regarded successfull telepathic communication as acts of magic. Nowadays telepathy is one of many sometime "magical" arts grouped together under the heading "extra sensory perception" and the study of the "magical" and of such phenomena as ghosts is dealt with by scholars of a new science labelled "para psychology". There is pleanty of evidence provided by anthropologists to show that magic does work. Witches can practice magic successfully, my current theory suggests that , as everything in the world possesss an energy field, and the human body possesses a very powerful one, an act of magic consists in focusing this electro magnetic energy and transmitting it, often by way of a highly smybolic "language". The symbolic "language" appears to be of images which are transmitted either verbally, or mental pictures accompanied by ritual acts which help the mind concentrate and learn. This electro magnetic energy is simliar to that emitted by the moon and stars, which astrologers believe affects the character, and destiny, of all creatures. 

All human beings possess energy fields, and therefore possess physic power. Those who are on higher levels of consciousness, and those who practice and understand this knowledge will experience high vibratory rates of these energies and will be able to experience them more often. We all share the same faculties, obey and use the same lawas of nature, but in each one of us some faculties are more fully developed than others … different levels of consciousness.

Witches use faculties common to everyone. These are hard to describe, but one might summarize them under "ESP". We all have some telepathic abilities ; witches simply have developed them and made them subject to the will rather than to chance. We all pick up "vibrations" from places and people, witches have increased this ability. We all, whether realize it or not, have the ability to perform physic healing or faith healing. The healing abilities of witches are well known and well documented.
