This is a 16-17th century forumula  found in Ashmole documents  #1406.  Ashmole was a collector of magical documents.  There is a good possibility that this came from Edward Kelly  or Dr. Dee. in which case it is worth a try. Kelly was  seer without equal before or since. He scryed documents and tables  so complex that even to this day only a fraction of the material is understood and used.   I've not tried this. The part of sacrificing the hen and the use of hazel sticks is forced summoning magic and I wouldn't recommend trying it. It is probably a take off of the   Grimiore Vernum  If the catalogue number is date oriented this would be one of the oldest western grimoire pieces around.  I found out from my other half that Ashmole was an antiquarian and did not write any original grimoires or alchemy works.  Dee was late 16th century so the 14th century date would precede him and place the techniques of the forced summons as  stemming from Grimoire Vernum, and Trithemius .  These sort of works may contain errors be they intentional decoying which was common in Middle to Renaissance works to scribing mistakes and channeling error.  I would recommend channeler's here to check with their constituents and post any corrections or recommendations.  No ritual instructions accompanyed this piece which is very unusual and may have intentionally be left out to decrease the possible risk of accusations of blasphemy or witchcraft. Witchhunts were common and torture of the victims standard practice during these times.  The actual origin of this grimoire is unknown.  I've been trying to track it down.

An excellent way to gett a Fayrie, but for my selfe I call margarett Barrance but this will obtaine any one that is not allready bound. First gett a broad square christall or Venus glasse in length and breadth 3 inches, then lay that glasse or christall in the bloud of a white henne 3 wednesdayes or 3 fridayes: then take it out and wash it with holy aqua and fumigate it: then take 3 hazle stickes or wands of an yeare groth, pill them fayre and white, and make soe longe as you write the spiritts name, or fayries name, which you call 3 times, on every sticke being made flatt one side, then bury them under some hill whereas you suppose fayries haunt, the wednesday before you call her, and the friday followinge take them uppe and call hir at 8 or 3 or 10 of the clocke which be good plannets and howres for that turne: but when you call, be in cleane Life and turne thy face towards the east, and when you have her bind her to that stone or Glasse. An Ungt. to annoynt under the Eyelids and upon the Eyelidds evninge and morninge, but especially when you call, or finde your sight not perfect. (That is, an ointment to give sight of the fairies) pt. (precipitate?) sallet oyle and put it into a Viall glasse but first wash it with rose water, and marygold flower water, the flowers be gathered towards the east, wash it til the oyle come white, then put it into the glasse, ut supra. and thou put thereto the budds of holyhocke, the flowers of mary gold; the flowers or toppes of wild time the budds of younge hazle, and the time must be gatherred neare the side of a hill where fayries use to go oft, and the grasse of a fayrie throne, there, all these putt into the oyle, into the glasse, and sett it to dissolve 3 dayes in the sonne, and thou keep it for thy use; ut supra.

Sallet oil is one of three things duck, goose fat or olive oil.  Marygold may be Calandula   What I would do is grow the plants near where your fairy garden is and use them since you know they're hanging out there.  Almond is usually interchangeable with hazel in southern climes classically this is according to E. Levi but  it is also done in common practice.

A complete listing of woods and their traditional magical uses can be found here at esoteric archives. Joe's work is always impeccable and I would consider his postings to the be soundest information available.   http://www.esotericarchives.co…..index.html

How you tell where  a fairy throne is I'm not sure. I suspect it would be the center of the cairn or the garden.   Dowsing would probably be the easiest way to locate it.

Decoying and errors may be omissions additions, wrong parts of the plants.  THere would be enough of an instruction in there that a knowledgeble person who was called to its use would be able to sort it out . Cross referencing against other visionary formulae and against channeled information would be my recomendation here.

I personally have not tried this and in fact only found it last week. So I have no idea of the efficacy of the formula.

this is like invoking catalina, my question is why do it?

never bind to the stone, the holy grail must be free

never do this

this is how universes are formed

its dangerous and only certain esoteric kabbalists (age 60+)are qualified to do it… because they are nice and they do it in a cool manner and they have interesting rooms and stories anyways

your only reading half the post, and I mentioned that forced summoning magic is not advisable.  It's not a bad thing to know at least though because if you have a problem with the unseelie or other nasty it may be the only way to resolve the problem.

The second half is a forumula to help those who are having difficulties with clarvoyency.  If you have no trouble with this than you have no need of the formula, however, there are those here who are not so gifted who have friends they would like to be able to see.   When I have time I will set the post in plainer langauge and recommend variations.

Okay have a few minutes before hauling out the the island.  The formula is supposed to help with Clarvoyant sight. How much you'll see WHO you'lll see well  guess we just have to find that out for ourselves.

Here be the ingredients

glass bottle with a glass or wood stopper. DO NOT use metal.  it should be widemouthed makes it much easier and fairly large because some of the ingredients later on are fairly substantial in size.  You should have a couple for the variations we need.

Sallet oil  (  have some roast duck or goose save the fat make sure the fat doesn't contain other cooking ingredients like salt peper, garlic onion mmmmm getting hungry yet?  )  Vegetarians can try olive oil but I will say there's nothing vegetarian about old magical formulas.   The duck and goose    have water associations which since this is related to divination I believe is a better choice.  Variation 1 try one of duck one of goose.

Marygold water

Rose water.

Step 1making the flowerwater

to make marygold and rose water you take the flowers put them in  a wide mouth glass container.  I would leave the flowers whole when doing this.  These flowers need to be growing in an area where  you think Sidhe  are hanging out.  When you gather the flower heads  you have to face east.

( Note:  you need to watch that you don't plant genetically altered plants for this.  Use single flowered once a year blooming roses. Thats closest to the wild variety.  If you live in the midatlantic to Maritimes Canada those sea roses are the original native rose.  Here's a picture. Use the pink ones not the white the white do not have much of a scent. Wild roses will grow true from seed.

Not sure if maryglold in Elizabethian times was Marygold or Calandula. Again its a plant that will grow from seed.  It would be a good idea to plant both Calandula and Marygold try the Marygold first maybe have a second bottle with the calandula.

Here's a picture of the right type of Marygold http://rlv.zcache.com/french_m…..cp_400.jpg

and Calandula

http://www.geswindt.co.za/imag…..nalis3.jpg

okay back to the process

making the flower water  this is the easy part. Take the flowers gathered from the east and put them in a wide mouth container ( separate of course) put clean water in Don't use city water with chorine and fluride in it well water is okay or rain water if you live in town. thow it in a cool place the fridge is good and let it sit for 24 to 48 hours or so.  filter out the flowers eh voila !!!!

3 rinse the sallet oil Basically I believe this is trying to mix oil with water.  Turning the oil white is because duck and goose fat turn white when they solidify more of an indication of a drop in temperature.   This is another reason why I think it's animal fat. Olive oil won's solidify. I'd go first with the marygold then the rose water. mix it let it settle then separate the oil and water. This is messy.  Also kids don't do this in the sink. If the fat gets into the pipes it will create a problem  that your parents will be very unhappy about.

okay managed to separate most of the water out from the oil put it into the bottles with the glass stopper. Don't fill it up all the way because we have to add some more ingredients.

Here's a list of the plants you'll want to have. Again these have to grow in the fairy part of the garden.  I would follow the same gathering rule facing east. Watch your astrological timing too make sure conditions are favorable for divination.  Now here is the tough part and I can't help you much there because I will be the first to admit I suck at astrology. You should not use modern astrology for this. Use Ptolomy or Agrippa.  If you can find anything  classical and detailed on Roman, Celtic, or Nordic astrology use that   instead.  There is a copy of Tetrabiblios online this is the astrology manual I would use.  If you look for celtic or nordic make sure to check the sources. There's a lot of modern junk out there thats based on modern astrology. Tetrabiblios should give you an idea as  what your looking for. I can help check classical references. Okay back to the plants.

Here is a copy of Tetrabiblios  http://www.sacred-texts.com/as…../index.htm

Quantity of these plants should be approximately equal in weight. The wild thyme HAS to be grown near a fairy hangout.   put these into the oil and mix it well let it sit in the sun for 3 days.  This is not going to smell good let me tell you. once it's had 3 days in the sun refrigerate it before it gets worse.

1. Holly hock buds. The buds should just be starting to show color

2 Marygold flowers

3. Flowers of wild thyme ( time) okay this is creeping thyme and it has beautiful purple flowers… WATCH out for bees when your getting it.

4. buds of hazel.  For those in the south almond is interchangable with hazel. it only buds in the spring

I hope this is a bit easier to follow than the Elizabethian English.

Ah thanks for this, actually. I'll be saving it for the future. :) I would like to note that pure extra virgin olive oil DOES in fact solidify. If it does not, it's not true olive oil or it's a mixture of oils.

Okay I may have a clue as to the origin of this formula.  Went to the Cape this week to take posession of the new house and stayed next to the Scottish heritage museum. I went to the museum to find an album ( picking through hay to find a needle and of course all the titles are in Gaelic so I had to have someone help me because I don't read gaelic) Guess what the contents of their garden were…….. every single one of the plants mentioned was somewhere in that garden.  It was a traditional Highland flower garden.  Most of the Scots here came from the western Highlands namely the Hebredies. I would say this is a likely origin of the formula.  If this is the case duck and goose fat would be the base.  Olive oil would not have been used  or even known at that time. The ingredients appear to be common items found in the scotish highlands and readily available to the average person.  Olive oil if the common folk could get ahold of it would have been extrordinarily expensive. Likely available only to the very richest ….. the Hebridians were anything but weathy prior to or during Ashmoles time.  I think the next likely origin would have been Ireland and its the same story there as well only the richest would be able to afford it. The rest of the ingredients are common household or garden items.

The possible cause for exception is that glass was probably not very readily available at that time. That might support a case  that this formula was available only to the rich and possibly contained olive oil which was an expensive rare import.   Queen Elizabeth I  was very interested in Ceremonial Magic, Alchemy, and Astrology.  Ashmole did have documents from her court in his posession ( what later became Cassaubon's True and Faithful relation and the  monas hieroglyphica) .  Ashmole was alive during the last part of her reign, and may have tried to preserve documents from that time,

He would do so being an antiquarian and at the risk of his life because the king who reigned for most of his life was King James ( the one who had the bible translated into English) James was obsessed with demons and wrote a book on demonolgy probably as an abreviation or edition of  the infamous malias malificarum which was first published in the 1400's.  He mounted a brutal witchhunt in both England and Scotland.  The book is called the Demonolgy of King James.

Fairies were presumed to be a type of demon at that time. Neither the royal court nor the courtiers would have been interested in this formula  and probably would have killed or tortured anyone in known posession of Ashmole's document. Ashmole was a very courageous……. and careful antiquarian.

Okay so much for the update.
