Well With me I was about 8 or 9 and I bought a kids book about dragons, I found it interesting, and I think that kind of put the thought of magical cratures/beings in the back of my mind, for a few years after that book though I didn't really belive in the fae, or anything magical, I have always believed in ghosts though, because they have always been a pert of my life, but I never really belived if fairies or anything like that until I was about 12-13, and I watched the 'Spiderwick chronicals' movie! I wanted it all to be real, I wanted it to be real so bad it almost hurt (I know, I know, that sounds corny, but oh well, it's the only way I can discribe it) so I started looking it up, I found an article about fairy houses on a particular website, if fact this particular website made it clear to me that what I wanted so bad to be true, was in fact, true.

Guessed what the particular site is yet?

"No." I hear you say.

Realfairies.net!!Wink

So really, this website made me belive in magical creatures/beings.

What about everyone else?

Have you always had a strong feeling about fairies? Did you watch a particular movie, or read a particular book that made you belive? Have they always been a part of your life so you didn't need to start believing, you already did belive?

I'm not sure it's so much a question of when I started believing for me so much as when I started to distinguish things like ghost from faery, before I got to about 7/8 thought they were all pritty much the same thing. My mother had a few books on the subject of ghosts so I kinda educated myself with those and I was given a few faery books over the years. Though more than that I had contact quite often with odd things since I was 3 that fueled my belief and curiosity towards these people.

I remember watching the Spiderwick Chronicles, and I kind of wished it was real..and them my step-mom's friend came over, and I told them that I watched the movie..etc and then her friend mentioned that some guy proved fae exist…I agreed, and then left out a rose, honey and I think a crystal or something..The next morning, there was a very small stone, probably one that could fit in a pixie's hand inside the box..

Hey fairies.

I would like to contribute. I started believeing at about 12, one day I may have been watching Tinker Bell, I don't really remember, the thought came to me, and the wondering never stopped. They sort of came to me after that, telling me to look them up and I found this site. I never doubt that this is true.

All your stories are great, thanks so much for sharing!

@Momo: Your very lucky, it seams as though you have had a strong connection with ghosts, fairies and such your whole life almost!

@DakotaRisingMoon: Wow! The fae left you a little gift, I bet you were super exited about that, I know I would be!

@Faecat: How did the fae come to you? Was it through dreams? Or something else? Smile

Actually before knowing about fairies I was already interested in ET and other world, although the interest wasn't that great. I was mostly inspire by a particular book I read in junior high. After reading that book I was totally into fairy and would read any books I could find about fairy. But, it stop there when I had a limit amount of books to read. My interest subsided. It was later awaken when my sister wanted a book for a project. I recommended that book for some reason I am not aware of. She checked it out and did her project on it. I didn't know what force pushed me into re-reading it, but I did it and that set flame to the interest that was buried so deep not long ago. Aware that I had already read all the books I could find I felt a sense of sadness until suddenly an idea pop up; why not look online. I was not expecting anything. I basically acted on impulsed and I ended up here. The first fairy site I ever visited, real fairies.

Extra: I don't know when, but I had this book I brought some time ago. I am not sure when, but I never read it after I brought it. It was put somewhere and forgotten until later after I had already been on real fairies for quite awhile when I found the book and was awe that I got it. It was a book of stories about fairies. They weren't kids fairies stories. What surprise me the most was that, why wouldn't I go for something more kid like. I brought a book that were wrote base on story passed down. It could possibility be the only fairy book there, I don't know.

I faintly remembered that the book was for sale and there were a few of other with the same subject. Only two caught my attention. I am not sure why I even brought it. When I tried to remember the feeling I felt a kid's love of picture.  I can't be positive what force pushed me to buy the book. I didn't even know about fairies or what they are. I haven't even heard of the word fairy other than fairy tale or the tooth fairy. I was so young that I didn't even question why we add fairy to tooth fairy. Recently, when I went back to see if there were more books about fairies, the man could only find little kids stories of fairies. I checked online and the store sure does have fairy book. Either the man doesn't know his own store or books on the subject fairy were out of stock.

The town I live in is believed to be haunted and it's right next to the national park land so it's not that surprising that these things happen a lot here. Take Whitby for an example, the place where the book Dracula was written, still has sightings of grims that run the streets at night and it's about half an hours drive from the town I live in. Then there's Skinningrove that I recently found out had a captive merman for a while, also less than half an hours bus ride from here. The remains of the priory and surrounding houses in the town I live in are also well known to be haunted by the black monk who seems to like walking his dog around the north gate on new years eve. Apparently there's treasure in there somewhere that is guarded by a big crow that attacks people who come looking for it, though I have not seen any crows in there for a while.

What an awesome topic!

I actually can't think of the very first moment I started to believe. I feel like I always have. Most little kids believe in the sparkly fairies with wands  and all that and I was definitely one of them. As I grew up my beliefs became a bit more realistic and I started researching the topic a bit more. I remember reading the Spiderwick Chronicles and those really made my belief a lot stronger! The movies pretty awesome too. I've never been lucky enough to have my own fairy encounter and recently I've been a bit distant from the forums but I feel like I'll always believe no matter what.

@ta: Oh wow, the book sounds wonderful! And yes, it could be possible thsat they simply didn't have any fairy books aimed more towards adults in stock at that book store. You should go in again after a few weeks and ask again if he has any more fairy books is stock, if he dosn't have what you want you could always look at online stores, thats where I got a few books from, as there is no book store where I live.

@momo: O.O Wow!!! I'd love to live in a town that is known for being haunted, I would find it so interesting!

@JollyRancher36: It seems as though the spiderwick chrinocals (both books and the movie) have had an impact on a lot of people to beleive in fairies, or make their belief stronger, me included! I wonder why…Maybe it's just because how realistic it is…

@faecat: It's quite alright, your very lucky! It sounds wonderful! I havn't had the fae come to me in any way at all…yet!

Honestly I don't remember when I started to believe. My story is a lot like yours. I've believed ever sense I can remember, spending most of my child hood on never fairies (it's a series the movies are supposed to be about but they messed the movie up compared to the books) and I have a book on flower fairies. Just this weekend I decided to look up faeries and… Here I AM!!!

I've always looked for people like me who believe in fairies. I finally found them.

I would say I first started believing in the Fae was when I was really young. I was first influenced by cartoons and books. My mom would say thing like "their not real" and/or negative things about it. And even thought she would say all this in my mind I opposed of it. And all this started about when I was 6/7ish. And although I may have few experiences I know they are out there.

@ta I wanted to ask you whats the name of the book that you read?

I started believing in faeries when I went to my first Winter Solstice a little over ten years ago. The lady who put on the winter solstice held celtic classes of which after a while I started attending. I wasn't raised to believe in faeries, and didn't really get into their world until I was almost 30yrs old. I guess you could say that I'm a bit of a late comer. When I became part of holding the ancient celtic grove festivals, I felt more connected to the faerie world. I grew up knowing some of the 'fairy tales' especially thanks to Disney, but never really believed that faeries were real. Now, believing in them and knowing they are just 'beneath the surface' is as natural as breathing itself. I came across this site from visiting some other site.Smile

I never really believed until I saw one about five years ago. It opened my eyes to a whole new world.

The book Faerycraft by Allison Geddess Ward, finally, things made sense, it was as though the world I'd searched for was waiting for me behind the veil, my lifes experiences now felt linked to the one point, and to the future possibillities it opened up. There's so much elven in the world when you know what it is.

I guess it is a pretty well known book. At first I read Valiant by holly black. I was confused, yet very interest and moved on to read the Tithe. It was actually the book Tithe that inspired me so much. I don't remember what caused me to be interest, I just knew after reading the book I wanted to know more. At that time I did not question if they exist or not. I don't know why I would want to read more of something I though were make-believe. The first post that I read here was about the color of dragon. I don't know what could have happen if that article haven't caught my attention. I was pretty shocked to read about the color of dragon. I questioned it. I thought this guy must be crazy. I even though Mr.E must be some strange human. It as a interesting moment in my life.

It mostly started when i was younger, mostly from watching disney movies and harry potter. i really liked the idea of them being real but my parents always denied it but they believe in angels so the idea of believeing in a supernatural wasnt so weird to me. Until i was in grade 10 which was three or two yrs ago i watched the tinkerbell movie with my little cousins and then i started wondering but i never thought of googling it. Then i watched a brintney spears music video on youtube and someone said something about illuminati and i was in total shock of wat was actually going on which made me realize things arent always what they seem and then i thought "What if fairies were also real?". Until i was in grade 11 during xmas break i was sooo upset and sad because someone spread a rumour about me that i needed to cheer myself up by watching some videos on youtube. But instead i googled fairy encounters and that opened up my eyes. I then googled information on fae and i found this website:)

I'm a bit of a late-comer myself- as i was 45 when I had my first encounter.   I became a Born again Christian when I was 16– having been athiest before that.   Since that time have had many supernatural experiences with the entire Trinity and an angel, but never faeries.  In fact, the Faery were the last thing I expected actually exist.

Then, I met a wonderful Native American woman who has had a lifetime of experiences with these Beings in a healing ministry she has helping unloved children . This woman has healing gardens where these kids in her neighborhood can go for a "safe haven" during times when they need to get away from thier families.   Anyway,   when she shared with me some of her experiences- how her grandmother introduced her to these small Fae Beings living near this pond near her Indian reservation,  and how her grandmother whistled for them and they all came out from these reeds to see her (she was 3 years old then),   that's when I started to think outside of the Box and realize that maybe I was setting limits on all the Beings that God has created.  That we humans are not the only intelligent life out there.

So I spoke with  a fellow internet Christian friend.  A german guy .   He reccommended I put the matter in the Lord's hands and ask Him to confirm wether Faery are real or not-   not to make any judgements but let the Holy Spirit confirm His truth.

So I did.  I remember walking on our road in April and really putting the matter in God's hands– leaving the timing and all totally up to Him.    One month later on 5/31/08 after a family crisis, my eyes were temporarily opened that morning to see a beautiful Faery/Pixie-like Being looking at me with total empathy through an open section of my long hair.   She had totally dark brown eyes with no human irises., but they reflected total empathy for me- she was actually feeling my emotional pain with me from the family crisis the night before.   She had soft cocoa brown skin, high cheekbones, high forehead and wide set slanted eyes , delicate nose, lips and chin– she looked very delicate and very regal- yet also had this humility and innocence about her that I have never seen in a human before- she truly had this rare inner beauty.  When I think of Beings that have all one color eyes.  She was not how I expected a Faery to look like -but yet now I understand that there are many kinds of these Beings- some do actually resemble the Tinker-Bell version as well.   I started scouring the Barnes&Noble book store for Faery books to see if anyone had a similar encounter with a similar Being.  The only thing I could find was a book from Brian Froud with a painting of Pixies who looked very very much like who I saw- but they were more wiry and bony looking and she had a much more softer appearance. Also, his pixies were male ones and they looked like they were up to mischief..lol!  but she was more reserved and humble looking– more regal too.   I sensed she was someone of responsibility from her fellow Beings.    No words were spoken.   I stared at her for about a good minute or two.   Staring at her did make her feel uncomfortable so she dissapeared. but she did permit me to see her for a bit.  I guess she was also curious about me too but she did not seem to like to call attention to herself.  She definitely was someone from the side of Light.

I will never forget that experience and have learned to cherish all the things the Faery cherish– I feel like thier little human sister and they are –like Elders- to me.   I'm grateful God opened my eyes to think outside the religious box.   I think when we die — if we are faithful to the Light He has given us to the degree each of us have- that much more will be in store for us- much more discoveries we have no idea!

I believed in fairies when I was a child, when I was a teenager I stopped…..  it was a hard time for me and I was unsure about all of my beliefs and tried to figure out what's important for me… when I grew older (and wiser) I started to believe again, but I'm new here and also try to gather more information! :) It's important for me to learn more about fairies.

Tinker Bell also influenced me I guess ;)
